I know there is a catch up mechanic in the game as I have gotten my Warror, Death Knight and Paladin caught up to my Demon Hunter (12 renown) but on my Hunter, I have noticed I been stuck at 7 renown all day. I did all the covenent quests and No matter what activity I do Renown does not drop. I am wondering if the Catch Up system is capped daily.
A list of things I’ve done today after hitting 7 Renown and no renown drops.
6 Heroic Dungeons (2 De Other Side, 2 Spires of Ascension, 2 Plaguefall)
1 full run of LFR
1 Battleground Win (I know, impossible on Alliance, but it happened)
1 Calling from my Covenent
4 runs of Torghast (Fracture Chambers 2, 3 and 5 - Upper Reaches 4)
1 Mythic Spires of Ascension run (I know I run this place alot, but it has my hunter’s last Dungeon Legendary)
And no Renown dropped today outside of 1 Heroic Dungeon, 1 Covenent Calling and my Covenent’s Campaign quest.
I am just wondering if this is capped daily at 3 until you’re caught up or something is wrong? I believe I did everything I could Night Fae wise with my Hunter cause I know I stopped getting Renown on my DK until I did the Soulbind quest to unlock the Abomination. I am honestly frustrated. I mean I did every activity blizzard said can drop renown and it just wont drop past 7.
I didn’t pay too much attention but I came back yesterday after about 2 weeks off and went from 5 renown to 12 with the two weekly quests, callings, and I think a dungeon quest. I wish I had paid more attention so I could give you better info. It seems to me that I picked up the callings before taking the break. So maybe you have to hold them to get the catch up renown?
Update : Still have not been able to get past Renown 7 on my hunter despite 7 hours of activities. However on my Shaman, I was able to go from renown level 3 to Renown level 9 Doing 3 Callings, My Weekly Quest for Souls, my weekly Quest for Anima, and the World Boss. I also will get 1 renown for the 3 chapters of my campaign I can now do so that puts me at 12 when I finish. Its honestly frustrating that my hunter is stuck at Rank 7 because Night Fae is one of the Two Covenent stories I have yet to experience. Sadly, only my Hunter is Night Fae so I dunno if this is related to the Night Fae or something is up with my character. I have every class lvl 60 at the moment and my covenant choices were as such.
Update : My hunter is able to get renown today from its calling. Seems like there MIGHT be a daily cap on renown from other sources other than Callings and the Quests. Hopefully I can get rank 12 today.
Do you have an update? I’m having the very same exact issue you described in the original post. I’m stuck at Night Fae Renown level 7. I’ve run multiple heroics, M+ runs, and there are no quests available. Maybe I’m catching up too quickly? That just seems odd.
Still hoping for clarification about this. I’m stuck at renown 7 after switching from Venthyr to Night Fae. I’m guessing there is a weekly cap on renown catchup, but it doesn’t tell me anything and there is no official explanation of renown catchup mechanics from Blizz. Really terrible communication on their part.
Tomorrow is reset, so hopefully things resume then.
This might be very late to the party but if you complete your weekly quests from the covenant hall, it will stop your renown gain for some reason, do NOT complete them until the end of the week and have fun spamming other stuff to catch up
It will not stop your renown gain globally, but it will soft-block you if you’re just short of the cap. Basically, the renown catchup will only catch you up to (LastWeekCap - NumCampaignUnfinished), at the most. If you complete this week’s weeklies, then you’ll stop getting catch-up renown once you hit last week’s cap, and you’ll have to wait until next week to get the catch-up you missed out on (but only if you wait to do next week’s weeklies for the same thing).
It’s also not a guaranteed drop from any source except the world boss, as far as I’m aware. I’ve also heard claims that the probability of you getting renown scales with how far you’re behind, so as you get closer to catching up, it slows down a bit.
I have been Stuck at renown 28 for 2 days now. Did all my Callings, Campaign quests, Threats of Fate, I did my all the renown quests. I should be able to get to 34 as catchup, but nothing is dropping renown anymore. What now? I though they fixed it, but apparently not…
You have to complete each stage of the covenant campaign as it becomes available. If you dont finish the chapter, the renown wont drop. Or at least that is my guess. I swapped covenants and went from 1 to 18 in a day. But I made sure to complete each Covenant Campaign Break Point.
I also found that after rank 15, heroics stopped dropping 1 each time. M0 have been dropping 1.
I wish Blizzard gave an explanation on how it works. This guessing game garbage is nonsense.
Renown can drop from activities until you are caught up to 2 below the current Renown cap. We currently earn 2 a week so with the current cap at 36 your character would earn Renown from various content to 34 then you would need to do the Covenant weekly quests to get renown.
I believe the drop chance on Renown is very high until you get closer to the current cap and it slowly decreases, I may be wrong on that one though.
I’m actually stuck with the same problem. I hit 60 on a character on Monday and have been farming renown like crazy. Once I hit 29 renown, it took the catchup renown away from me (they were on my callings that I was delaying handing in until the last few renown levels), and I have been unable to gain renown since no matter how many activities (raids, keys, callings, etc.) that I do.
Unfortunately I’ve already handed in my 20 souls and 1000 anima quests so it appears I am hard capped at 29 for the remainder of the week.
The catchup renown system is quite hard to understand, it really doesn’t work how you expect.
Update: I did actually get a renown from a normal raid boss tonight, so I did get to 30, it just appears to become a lot more rare and things lose eligibility for extra renown at certain points.
FYI 2 weeks ago I had a character that handed in both weekly quests for renown and was 3 below cap, and I still managed to get catchup renown all the way to the actual cap for that week. (so the cap - 2 rumor is just that, a rumor)
As pointed out several times above, you gain 1 Renown per covenant campaign chapter you complete as well. The system will not catch you up farther than last week’s cap, minus the number of covenant chapters you’ve yet to complete. If you’re blocked at 29, that sounds like you still have 5 covenant campaign chapters left to complete, which would bring you to 34, last week’s cap. If you then had the souls and anima quests uncompleted, it would bring you to the current cap of 36 (if you complete those before hitting the catchup cap, they sorta count against you and soft-lock your catchup until the following week).
