Can someone help me understand how this works? when is it supposed to be activated? before taking damage? after?
IIRC, it heals back the damage you take over a few seconds. It also doesn’t mitigate it. So ideally you’d need to pop it before taking damage.
You take damage and it’s healed back over 8 seconds. You use it before you’re going to take some damage.
I have 1000hp.
I get hit for 100 damage, I now have 900hp.
I click Renewing Blaze. 8 seconds later I still have 900hp.

8 seconds later, I have 1000hp again thanks to renewing blaze.
Use it before you take damage. For extra love, use it in conjunction with Obsidian Scales. It’ll save your butt in unavoidable damage situations.
You use it before you take damage but you also need to make sure you don’t die through the healing. If you use it at 100% health and don’t die, all the damage you take in the following 8 seconds will be negated.
In mythics I try to use it as often as I can when unavoidable damage is coming, with the question being if I need to also use a charge of Obsidian Scales to not die. In PvP you can use it to negate a ton of damage before damp ramps, with the correct kiting/self-healing being a sufficient pairing to stop many early offensive CDs. Need to combo it with OS against bigger damage or further into damp though.
Activate before. It practically erases some mechanics. There is a talent where it gives health back over only 4 seconds instead of taking 8 now, instead of the CD reduction which will make it more flexible.
