Yeah, i know its a bit of a hot take, though I think a free to play tournament realm with instant access to a fully geared level 80 would result in a huge resurgence of the pvp scene. So many people who arent interested in the 1-80 grind, only to then have to slog through a gear grind that is long, tedious, and unfun to the sorts of players who would enjoy arena, those sorts of people would flock to the game, and sure, a bunch would try, get bored, then leave, but a bunch would also stay.
It’s not free though, I guess I’m not really sure how that’s part of the discussion. People just want rating requirements removed not the cost altogether. You still have to farm honor and do arena to get the gear, just like it is in later expansions and it worked fine. It’s not skipping content for anyone because dungeons blues are better than most currently available pvp gear and pvp players still want pve gear because it’s bis for certain slots for pvp too. Removing ratings does nothing negative to the game, but has plenty of positives.
They used to have that and it was great. I agree they should do it again.
Yeah, being told it would be free parroted so much is tiresome. It still would take months to get the full set even with the ratings removed.
Yeah, sorry, I was talking about my own ideal situation, rather than simply removing rating requirements from gear
Oh, gotcha. I must have misunderstood. I think it’s fine if there’s servers made for just pvp like the old tournament realms they used to put up. But for normal realms I think it’s healthier just to remove rating requirements and leave everything else alone tbh.
Whoops! Thought you were referring to the naysayers earlier.
Well, so that was my initial stance before as well, but I had a mutli glad friend point out to me that it would be super annoying to have to log out, change servers, and log back in every time you wanted to pvp, so thats what changed my stance on the matter.
The permanent tournament realms should be for the free to play players who still want to participate in the pvp without any of the pve rigmarole
26 item levels is insane and you’re so boomed out you have no idea what you’re talking about
Last season challenger was 1450 in 2v2. That means 65% of the ladder will never see a single piece of deadly unless they roll the dice with VoA.
You know what people do when they realize it’ll never happen? They quit. They have NOTHING to do arena for when they can’t buy a single item.
Know what happens when people quit? Nobody plays. The ladder dies. There’s almost no gladiator spots right now because so much of the ladder is under 1500 that they’re not even being counted.
Quit being dumb. Gate keeping gear that’s only use is PvP from PvPers is pants on head stupid.
Any mouth breather can parse Greys and get through naxx without issue and receive full gear. Keeping 70% of the ladder from getting a single arena piece makes no sense and benefits nobody. The high end players want more participation so there’s more title spots. The lower end players just want to have fun and gear.
Minor nitpick: 1000 is the “counted or not” cutoff point, not 1500, but otherwise yes, your points are all correct.
The weapons shouldn’t be locked so high, it gives people who got lucky via PVE an advantage. Otherwise i think it’s fine.
Hahah the true WOTLK CLASSIC experience, just like the good old times!!
Kinda yeah. I remember paying for a new account just so I could use the recruit-a-friend promotion on myself to level faster.
The difference between hateful and deadly gear is so minuscule. Again, gear isn’t everything, you can push high raitings with just savage gear. I’m currently rocking my S4 gear and just hit 1400. This queue session I’ll have a lot more hateful gear with valor badges.
I believe low participation is playing a big part in everyone’s rating currently. Idk if it’s because Bene/Faerlina still have queues and people are way behind or if somehow wrath arena is less hyped than TBC arena but not a lot of people are playing right now it seems.
You see clips from people like Snutz/Hozi having 30 min matches at only like 2.2k rating, and I myself have started having to fight against big names or people with TBC titles as low as 1800 MMR.
So yea, this could be a problem for people completing their sets (mainly helm and shoulders as the other 3 can drop from VoA 25) but I’m sure blizz will do the end of season discount thing they always did in TBC. My concern is the seasonal tabards because if participation doesn’t grow, rank 1 players might not even be able to get the rating requirement for them and that would be pretty scuffed.
EDIT: There’s also the arena achievements to consider which may be entirely unobtainable to 99% of the ladder if it remains too small. Not a huge deal, makes it more special I suppose but 2200 wasn’t insanely hard to get back in the day in 2s/3s
If you think:
Upwards of 70 stamina, 46 strength, 30 crit and 28 resilience is “insane” then you’re a hypocrite - and apparently an idiot (“boomed” out of my mind? Are you twelve?). That’s on two main pieces, by the way. If you think someone having 70 more stam than you is “game-breaking” then you must be one of those people who thinks they lose matches purely based on gear.
Ah so the rings, cape, neck, belt, and boots don’t exist?
See previous. There are also hateful pieces if you can’t manage something so ridiculously simple.
Good PvP’ers*.
Stop trying to neuter the rewards of people who try because you can’t achieve them.
And so then what’s the problem if you can get a 226 weapon off KT that’s better than any of the Deadly weapons and having deadly pieces require rating? “I shouldn’t have to PvE to PvP” is a non-argument in this expansion because that’s basically mandatory (DBW, Death’s Choice, the list goes on). So if you can’t get past 1450 (lol) then PvE. You’re appealing to the lowest common denominator (wonder why). That’s not what PvP is. Never was. Stop trying to make it so. This isn’t retail.
So you know every high-end player, do you?
Right. Come back when you know how to use words that matter.
I find your gross overuse of ad hominem attacks to be unconvincing, Killawar.
Ah but you don’t find the use of degenerate forms of language nor insinuated insults to be “unconvincing”? Nice double-standard. Can’t say I’m surprised. I also don’t know who you’re trying to fool; you’re certainly not a centrist here, so your consent to my point is irrelevant as is anyone else’s - because it’s fact.
Your entire viewpoint and opinion hinges on what rating people are at, while it does not matter to the discussion at hand.
That’s because that’s how PvP works! That hard for you to understand?
