Spotting eagle is a pet.
Poop Owl for Sentinel is a pet.
Fart Dog for Dark Danger is a Pet.
It’s a non issue except for a very very small portion of the game, that honestly we’d be better off without.
They arent traditional pets. You dont control them.
Love to break it to you but solo players complaining about losing the pet ARE the minority not the people playing group content.
They are still pets, and importantly: I do not want them. At all. Period.
SO your option is to deal with them, play another spec, or play another class.
My options are to complain, vocally, on the PTR until they either change it or reverse it. If they don’t, then I will just stop playing this game.
Yes, it is that big of an issue for me.
They arent changing it and they shouldnt. These are good changes for the majority of the hunter playerbase.
Thats your decision
The forums say otherwise. It’s not as popular as you think.
You’re funny if you think the forums represent a majority of anything.
The only people that are complaining are people that dont play the class or hardly play it.
The majority of mains on the forums are excited for the changes
And yet the entire PvE part game is now designed and balanced around that very small minority.
Not just pve, PVP get screwed by some pve changes tailored by M+ as well.
Yah, its dumb and a mistake on their behalf.
There are animals that historically you wouldn’t hunt without a companion, whether it be a bay or catch.
The falcon does the hunting, to be clear. Like terriers.
Stuff like this further leads me to believe that the people who make the game do not play the game. They wouldn’t even enjoy playing it that much anymore after all these odd changes that have made in recent years.
Because it makes perfect sense? If we balanced around people that do like +2s we’d nerf every class with a front loaded damage profile even though they fall off in play where sustained damage is important. There is plenty of content that is forgiving for the playerbase so there aren’t any issues there. It just makes zero sense to not balance a class around their skill ceiling rather than their floor.
Always?
Not only is M+ not the only content in the game, but the majority of people are not doing 2s and then nothing.
You don’t balance around either minority, but you do have to adjust for them on occasion. e.g. Arcane.
So it makes sense to create the game only for the top .01% of players and not make it for the 99.99%.
To paraphrase them, they think they do but they don’t. They don’t really care about the RPG element and haven’t in forever. They give it an occasional nod, do something like having players choose to help Sylvanas or Saurfang once a decade, but WoW’s design team doesn’t want an RPG. They don’t care about player choice or fantasy beyond that necessary for their big bad fights, encounter design, mythic plus and all that.
And that is and has long been a problem. They’ve chipped away at a lot of the original vanilla RPG systems. In some cases this has been for quality of life, in many other cases it’s been because they’re too lazy to balance or fix something and would rather use the axe than the scalpel.
Once again I will push my little grudge: Mythic+ has been a disaster for the rest of this game. For players like me who hate it, never play it, never will play it, we are never-the-less constantly forced to endure nerfs and changes made entirely to deal with balance for this particular game-mode. A decade of being able to use engineering boosts and gliders in instances which was nice while farming some of those really old huge ones suddenly removed, not because of problems with mythic or heroic raiders or raiding, but because people used it to cheese mythic+ timers and so they took out the big axe and ruined it for everyone. Same with many, many, many, many other balance and design changes.
The game should not be designed around mythic+ but it is. The game should not be balanced around mythic+ but it is. Classes and professions should not be nerfed in service to preventing strategies or cheesing in mythic+ but they are and will continue to be.
This is world of mythic+ craft with some attention to raiders bolted on. PvPers? Forgotten. They throw them Blunderstorm and force regular players into the meat grinder (with rewards like extra tender people can’t afford to pass up) for them every 6-10 months or whatever their plans are and call that paying attention to that community.
The game used to be designed around end-game raiders. That was what the dev team was all about, they were all hardcore in on that and usually were part of that scene themselves. And things weren’t perfect but they were better than they are now. They didn’t nerf as hard, they didn’t use any little excuse to bring out the axe like they do while tuning mythic+ to be this perfectly hard rush-rush-rush mode.
Until this dies or is de-prioritized the fun will continue to be nerfed if it can even by a crumb potentially unbalance a mythic+ key run.
And that’s a problem for solo players, for casuals, for normal people, for raiders who don’t like doing mythic+ and would rather the camaraderie of raiding and some heroic dungeons or world content.
I think they are convinced they need to try and take some of LoL/Fortnite’s cake, that they can somehow turn their MMORPG into something appealing to that crowd. All we can do is hope that whatever executives are pushing this, whatever presidents or vice presidents or heads of game design or whatever find another job and someone replaces them who wants to actually make an MMORPG and to cater to MMORPG players including the many, many, many, many casuals and lovers of fun.
Until then the beatings and nerfings will continue, the fun will be blasted from orbit. They’ve alienated MMORPG players in favor of whatever type actually likes mythic+ high keys competition and the game population has declined since it was introduced but they want e-sports, they want streaming, they want all this stuff they think will make them money because it makes other game genres money.
When it’s going to give a spec it’s identity instead of being split and poorly designed, yes.
Blizzard doesn’t care unless you stop giving them money.
