Removing Mythic+ timers?

MassivlyOP has an article that says Blizz is asking about removing Mythic+ timers altogether and replacing them with a death counter.

So no more failing a dungeon if you blow a timer. You fail if you die too much.

How do you feel about this?

Terrible cuz those wiener dps die too much as is

I doubt they will do it.

As much as I hate timers, it would alienate a huge portion of the m+ community and encourage some really degenerate community practices.

Blizz makes some dumb decisions but I think this one might be an obviously dumb choice even to them.

I mean, it’s already basically how dungeons work now.

You can move at almost a snails pace and time the run assuming you don’t wipe.

By literally removing the timer, though, people will just AFK for cds between packs and/or cc mobs so there’s actually zero chance of failure which would be very boring.

It’s a great way to make people not engage with M+ by turning dungeons into a slow and boring slog and remove any relevance from mob count.

Terrible. “Life counter” is the biggest reason I wont do Delves with anyone. I do them solo. Solo I can do no deaths, I have no faith in others

Torghast had same issue, I did them solo too cause too many people die to stupid

ONLY WAY I would support a death counter is if it tracks # of deaths in a dungeon(by that player specificially) and makes it a public display so we can avoid inviting people who die a lot.

Like, doing a delve over the course of a half hour because I go afk and reply to messages or whatever is neat and will probably stay in delves which they’ll likely expand on

But like zero shot they do it for keys

A death counter is worse. I’m fine with the timer.

Putting in a death counter will create a degenerate meta where you wait for cooldowns between pulls and will just change the meta to a meta that favors the most survivable specs.

AFK for CDs then CC all the mobs of a pack, yeah. High keys would just be 2-5 hour runs where you focus on minimizing risk and it’d be…so bad, actually. Especially since reliance on CC to the point where they gotta make most packs CC immune omg.

Challenger’s Peril is all the proof you need that an environment where you’re not running a premade anything that punishes deaths will lead to bad things. But in Blizzard’s unbelievable wisdom, they don’t seem to be able to grasp that.

If we end up with M+ where the meta is to just AFK between pulls for CDs … yeah I’m done with this game. If we want there to be less friction and lessen the toxicity, you need to move to lessen the importance of deaths not make it the main pass/fail mechanic.

10% of players are hardcore pushing keys, while 90% of players are casual meaning they play a wide range of features. It’s simple financial math. Replace the timer with a death counter.

  1. A death counter encourages precision and skill. Careful play, proper execution and teamwork over rushing through pulls.
  2. A death counter reduces stress from time pressure. Without a timer players will feel less rushed, which will make M+ more accessible to casual and new players increasing the player pool and financial gain for Blizzard.
  3. A death counter would support adaptability by having the opportunity to experiment with new routes and strategies and also recover from mistakes without worrying about running out of time.
  4. A death counter would focus on group coordination. Players would need to think about more efficient healing, crowd control, and proper execution of mechanics to minimize deaths.

No it won’t. That’s ridiculous and doesn’t make any sense.

Details does that.

Not everyone can afford a Ferrari.

When you can’t afford a Ferrari you don’t ask for it to be turned into a Honda, and you certainly don’t ask for yours to be turned into a Ferrari.

You simply get in your Honda, stay in the right hand lane, make your way to work and save up for the Ferrari.

This is the path. God speed

Great. Will save a ton of time on failing keys. Will counter the basic human psychology effect that occurs when humans are put on a timer, lowering overall playerbase anxiety while also encouraging communication and social experiences because not being rushed

10% on a good day is what we are talking about for M+. A huge portion? So 8% bail and you will see a HUGE % join from casual and new players.

This is an easy financial decision. Death Counter 100%. Remove the timer altogether.

itll be great! super slow dungeons, one pack at a time to avoid deaths.
2hr key clears!

This is not going to work

Removing the timer would be the death of M+ as we know it, and quite frankly, I would unsub. M+ is my favourite end game pillar and I don’t want to be waiting on CDs between every pull because the bad players couldn’t handle a timer to motivate them to actually learn their classes.
