Removing melee from Holy kills the spec for me

RIP to class fantasy.

Holy Shock and Crusader Strike should be a choice node, and Crusader Strike should have a simultaneous damage + healing component to it as compensation for going into melee range.

Then, all talents which benefit Holy Shock would likewise benefit Crusader Strike. That would be fun while still addressing the reason why they wanted to remove Crusader Strike in the first place.

I could get behind this, especially with the addition of something like Denounce as a ranged spender instead of SotR. I don’t mind melee, but I definitely miss being able to play caster Holy.

I can think of quite a number of instanes when healers whether ranged or not are required to stand in melee due to boss mechanics both in m+ and raid. I don’t stop healing on my rshaman when I’m stacked in melee.

To further add and using rshaman as an example since I mained one. The final raid boss Gally in S2, I had to dps as our mana was crap. Rshams ran out of mana half way through the fight as totemic hero spec. To also mention to have 5 to 6 healers instead of 4 for Gally. In other scenarios, I would rather throw a couple of dps shots while player health bars are topped instead of just standing around.

Go to the Priest Forum, you clearly don’t know anything about Warcraft Paladins

I completely agree with you, I think blizz should replace Crusader Strike with Holy Strike instead of the whole Holy Shock replacing it. Holy Strike should be the AOE Healing Holy Power Generator. Seal of the Crusader is getting removed; they should bring back Holy Strike in a form that does more than just damage and provide more healing than what Seal of the Crusader is currently doing.

Where Light of Dawn currently sits, should be where Holy Strike should be at on the Holy tree. Beacon of the Lightbringer should just be baseline into the beacon spell and Light of Dawn should take its place on the Tree. They really need to move Avenging Wrath/Avenging Crusader up to where Unwavering Spirit/Protection of Tyr is at & just move Unwavering Spirit/Protection of Tyr below Ringing of Heaven.

Yeah. I don’t know why every time hpal feels good to play, they gut it. It feels great right now I literally wouldn’t change anything. Removing CS is so bad for the spec.

The 360 dawn is cool. Just add that and stop ruining all the fun of the specs.

Ooh rebuke got removed from Holy as well. One less reason to be in melee. Then again I guess most healers are losing interrupts?

it sucks to see but seeing that monk is also losing theres it does seem it’s just a consequence.

I think in this current iteration they still want melee to be an optimization/dps option, they actually improved the effect of Shining Righteousness to make sotr far more likely to proc divine purpose. Yes I know it’s getting rid of the effect that was seperate from divine purpose, but it means that you can get some lucky back to back chains w/ sotr and by extension get alot of HS cdr and more mana back by being in melee.

What I’m really curious about is the Lightsmith talents.

  • Lightsmith

    • New Talent: Masterwork – After casting a Holy Armament, your next 3 abilities cast a Lesser Armament of the same kind on a nearby ally.

    • New Talnet: Resounding Strike – Divine Toll/Holy Armaments activate Hammer and Anvil at 100% effectiveness.

    • New Talent: Reflection of Radiance – When your Holy Bulwark absorbs damage or your Sacred Weapon deals damage or healing, you have a chance to gain Grand Crusader or Awakening.

    • Hammer and Anvil’s healing effect now has a 30 yard radius (was 20) and a cap of 5 targets.

    • Hammer and Anvil has moved locations.

I respect your points and agree with a lot of them. I would suggest reading the WOD blue posts on fist weaving. They wrote a lot back then on why melee healing is bad.

In terms of class fantasy and what the devs have written on it for holy, I have always interpreted it as them being a healer who had the strength and durability to go wherever needed, whether that be range or near melee. They could bubble and mitigate, cast strong single target to keep themselves up - so much so that they had unique abilities to sacrifice their own life to heal or protect others. The ultimate expression of this was the range requirement of their new mastery in Legion. It’s entire goal was to get the paladin to move to different groups and heal those in need, or help with anything anywhere.

I think your point on support is true too, and I have often theorized that at some point the devs will implement support as a 4th role while reworking several specs to fall into that category. Part of the problem with DPS is how many people want to play them AND how many specs do that role. 40 specs and 2/3rds are DPS. Factor in how often there is little difference between taking this or that spec, and you end up with a lot of players out in the cold for most end game content. If instead those 6 or so specs all were support, you decrease the competition for dps slots while increasing the overall amount of specs taken to content. Everyone wins.

The puzzle is almost complete. The final piece is putting Shine of the Righteous from Legion Remix into retail, and we’re all set. I really, REALLY hope they do, Shine of the Righteous looks so cool compared to Shield of the Righteous.

the ‘melee healer’ nonsense has existed literally forever unless you’re terribad and were never meleeing to proc your mana seals and judging for procs and effects.

healers having rotations and involved gameplay is fun. healers spamming 2 second casts for 8 minutes is not.

I was literally going to post something similar. All we need is SotR gone and Holy be amazing.

I don’t think you understood what he was saying lol. He wasn’t advocating for the complete removal of SOTR, he just wanted the ability to use a 2h weapon and cast shine of the righteous which exists on legion remix.

Which, for the record, I agree with that sentiment - 2h hpal is dope.

AS LONG AS WE HAVE REASON TO BE IN MELEE. Otherwise it’s just a weird stat stick like for evokers, where they can use 2h int greatswords, but do absolutely nothing with them. But you know, you never actually see them because dracthyr form can’t show weapons on their back lmao.

I see all of this as good so far. More frequent and controlled hammer and anvil heals plus a more consistent version of the set bonus are all good things in my eyes. I already favor playing lightsmith over herald so it’s hype to see it get better.

The big question is how holy armaments are going to be handled? It seems they will take over for Divine Toll/Holy Prism which has the potential to be pretty good in that it triggers Rising Sunlight + the new version of Masterwork so you’ll be slinging out some fairy decent shielding + healing everytime you trigger your bulwarks and more damage and healing with the sacred weapons (iirc the Lesser Sacred Weapon prioritizes healers so in raids it’s adding more hps to the hpal)

Only concern I have is how they’re going to be balanced against the fact prism/divine toll generates hpower and holy armaments currently does not. I want to believe the masterwork triggers and guaranteed hammer and anvil heal will compensate but too early to tell.

From what I’ve been told, Holy Armaments no longer take over anything. So you will have Holy Prism/Divine Toll and Holy Armaments again.

That’s even better if that’s true. Is the wording on the divine toll cdr talent still mentioning and affecting armaments? That’s what gave me the impression that it was going to overwrite.

Assuming you mean Divine Resonance in the Class Tree, it still lowers the cooldown on all 3 spells by 15 secs.

ikr, its as if those programmers don’t have anything better to do and are making bullsht just to justify keeping their jobs. They need to learn to just make more content instead of the bullsht major class changes every single time they finally make a spec good enough; just to ruin it all over again. Are they so braindead they can’t learn from their past mistakes?
