I see some people are digging their own graves, one notorious name being Jainadain. I thought Shudder was doing it too but it was just a misunderstanding between him and Heylaa. So he’s cool.
Shall I get my Unholy Dk to raise the mage later?
In all seriousness, I liked Voidform at first until devolved to the point it feels really bad to even play with one. Yes, more void stacks and insanity management (kinda like Breath for Dks) is there but the rewards are pretty bleh in SL considering they’re going to remove Chorus of Insanity and WHY IS LINGERING INSANITY STILL A TALENT!?!?!?
Problem with VF always been, it’s feast or famine. It cannot be balanced. Blizzard can certainly try and stubborn they always have been.
I also discovered that Fire Mages have a Fireblast ability that guarantees a crit for fire mages… and guess what, not only it has 2 stacks (3 if you’re Human Torch talented into FLAME ON), it doesn’t cost a global cooldown. Why does Void Bolt cost a GCD??
#RemoveVoidform
Seriously, anything can be better at this point. If a Disc does more damage than Shadow, something is terribly wrong with the spec.
I don’t think this would be a valid route to take when you consider the fact that the max level priest population was in the top 1/2 of classes during WoD and prior but now is the lowest of all classes, even lower then monk that came out nearly 10 years after the original classes and that you didn’t have a short cut to leveling as you did with DK and DH and that’s considering their own issues as well. Its all very telling when you consider all of that.
So even if you did take a poll / interview all active max level priest players, the bias would lean to them enjoying Void Form because those that cant stand it anymore have already quit the game or playing a different class altogether.
Blizzard has had over four years and 2 expansions to make voidform work. It clearly doesn’t… and therefore priests have remained in the gutter for all content outside of being in perfect gear on a multi target spread raid fight / council fight.
Enough is enough
A class designed around taking one minute to do moderate damage does not fit in with most of wow’s dynamics
That is a very interesting comparison with another ability I despise and want removed. Void form and Breath of Sindragosa ruined two specs that I really enjoyed. The resource drain feels bad (this is very important), plus the ramp up times (which is also very important - in most content I can’t get into void form until the fight is basically over). I don’t like buffs that have a variable duration either. The general gameplay of void form and BoS simply isn’t fun for me at all.
I’d like to see insanity removed as a resource. Shadow orbs worked just fine.
Shadow is doing just fine in raids. I threw together a quick spreadsheet of the pick rates of every spec. The average pick rate should be ((1/24)*100)=4.16% per spec. Shadow is 5.06% for mythic and 4.22% for heroic, placing them both above average.
I ran a 13 key last night just to get a key done, and while not the highest key, I definitely saw shadows issues come out
My voidforms were so long that I did not reach full damage until the bosses we’re at 10% - 15%. Which by that point I could not execute another full voidform cycle before they died. The ramp up just takes so long…
I also had moments where I had to not use my major essence (Focusing Iris) because I have to wait to drop voidform for the 100%+ crit.
I caught myself wanting to purposefully drop voidform just so I could use my essence, and get the chorus stacks so my damage would feel strong
Idk any other spec that makes you feel like purposefully cancelling your biggest damage modifier early because it’s taking so long to actually boost your damage
It just made me feel like I was on a leash the entire dungeon, and my damage was restricted by voidform. I have to wait for it to ramp before I can compete with everyone else, and it just doesn’t feel good as a spec
It just reminded me why my priest is being shelved for a warlock. My lock can drop infernal and just delete things whenever I feel like it. Meanwhile my priest is over there like “Hold on guys, I got another 40 stacks of voidform to go , but just wait! It’ll be so bomb afte-Oh wait the target’s dead…”
Don’t PUG. Shadow does fine in m+ with tanks that play around you. Oh look the tank chain pulls directly into the boss while you are already ramped in voidform so you get to do way more damage.
MOST caster specs are at the mercy of tank routing.
Yes! A glyph to change Voidform visual to it. As a Void Elf, having wiggly tentacles 24/7 is a dream come true.
There’s no need to remove it altogether… Just offer this request as a glyph or something that makes the gear even more visible than the glyph we have now. Some of us actually like being a creature of darkness.
Yeah normally I run with my guild, so it’s not an issue
However, almost all other specs don’t require the group to adjust their pace or pull strategy just for you to perform at the same level as other specs
It’s especially bad if you play with a rogue or feral that wants to drop combat for restealths. Then you have two specs that wants opposing pull styles, and no matter which style you choose, it’s going to hurt someone’s dps.
Shadow’s a raiding spec imo. That’s the only place it truly shines, and doesn’t require some kind of babysitting or special treatment to perform
I wish you got what you wanted, but when blizzard goes to beta mode that is pretty much what you will be playing for the next 3 years with some minor patches here and there.
They’ve tried again and again to balance it. If you buff it too much it gets out of hand in raids. If it shines in raids it gets nerfed and then suffers even more in non-patchwork fights.
Voidform is a failed experiment that needs to be sent back to whatever trash can they fished it out of.
Because of Voidform’s insane ability to ramp damage at its peak, Shadow Priest damage outside Voidform has to be low to keep the numbers balanced.
It’s so bad that my Shadow Priest’s SW:Pain ticks for less than my Assassination Rogue’s poison.
The Void Form mechanic is cannibalistic, consuming everything in our talent tree and it feels bad. Everything in our kit has to take into account Void Form (VF). Every ability has to be nerfed because it could be broken in VF.
Please #removevoidform; no one should live like this (I mean, I know we’re dying to get to Shadowlands, but do you have to actually kill Shadow Priests to do it?).
I’m gonna toss my two cents in for a fix.
Keep in mind this is just an idea buuuuut…
Remove Voidbolt.
Remove Dark Void talent.
Bake Dark Void into Void Eruption.
Voidform now becomes:
Enter an enhanced Shadow form, increasing Shadow damage by X%
Every time your Shadow Word: Pain damage ticks deals damage to a target, unleash a Shadowy Apparition at the target, these Apparitions cost 10 Insanity.
Auspicious Spirits Talent becomes:
Your Shadowy Apparitions deal X% increased damage and only cost 5 insanity.
Now instead of being a sustained burst window that is gonna be over all too soon… It becomes a more regular burst. Instead of entering it for the feel of gonig faster and faster… it just hoses out void ghosts for a quick BLURT~! of damage.
My two shadowpriests will be parked until they revise the spec. I put up with it through legion, but I hate how awful it feels to kill normal mobs. All that ramp up, you might get two void bolts off before you waste the rest of the form just getting to the next mob. I wouldn’t care if it put up top numbers, that style of play just feels very inefficient and bad. Especially compared to a warlock, I feel like my dots are more than just a slow annoyance. And I have a tank. If my only concern is to be a dark caster, there’s no longer any reason to do otherwise. If you really hate locks and main shadow, well, I’m very sorry for your loss.
Basically every single caster spec in m+ requires catering. Fire and Destro require giant pulls every 2 minutes to do literally anything in keys (which is why minute mage is better for PUGs) with Destro also requiring pulling trash onto bosses if possible since it’s ST is god awful (since 5 azerite traits turn off).
Also, casters need things grouped AND stationary more than the likes of melee so things don’t get dragged out of Blizzard/Orb or Earthquakes or Starfall or whatever. The Machimba boss room in KR is where I can honestly take a bio break on any rdps not named BM Hunter.
Yes but with destro and fire you get a benefit for catering to them. You can pull bigger and kill trash faster
With shadow, you get their normal dps for catering to them. There’s no payoff for it. Their damage doesn’t skyrocket like a mage or warlock, they just don’t suck if you cater to them
