So I’m in Arathi Basin, guarding the stables, and middle of typing in instance chat I’m removed from the game for being afk.
What triggers something like this?
Either a bug or you weren’t moving around as much as you’re supposed to, and I don’t think the game registers typing as being active, but I could be wrong though.
You stood still too long most likely. You didn’t by chance type /afk did you? That would also do it.
You are only booted for /afk and reporting. Most likely a few crybabies reported you for defending.

Probably just some dumb dumbs looking at the scoreboard and thinking your lower damage means you aren’t doing anything.

Sorry that happened to you, but on my BM hunter I always announce if I will sit a base or not before hand.
Isn’t that how you win AB, though, by defending flags?

Communicate while you’re guarding.
If you can read the raid grid, keep an eye out for other people at bases: if you see them taking damage/being sapped, call it out: “healer at LM is sapped, watch it!” See the enemy moving around the node you’re at, even if they don’t come to attack? Call it out. “Pali heading circling farm, might be going GM.”
Can you buff and there’s people rezzing at the base you’re guarding? Buff them. If you’re playing a lock/mage, drop a soul well/table at the flag and announce it. If you’ve got a ton of feasts in your bags, drop one and announce it.
Let people know you’re not just afking/ honor leaching, and trying to be helpful while not actively fighting.

With the new reporting system, there is no way that this was done manually. Even if the whole team reported you for “gameplay sabotage” I don’t think it would trigger an autoremoval. Probably your character was standing still for too long.
Typing in chat doesn’t count as activity so as soon as you stand still for 2minutes in a BG, game auto /afks you and kicks you out.
This is especially a problem in comp stomp. The AI sends two stealth to farm/stables, so someone has to guard. But anyone who guards nodes gets slammed with vote kicks. It’s silly stuff.
You can’t farm honor in a single comp stomp match. It gives the exact same total honor in every single match, to every player, no matter where they are. The only “honor farm” is doing multiple matches as fast as possible. Vote kicking node guards is completely counterproductive.
Depends I think. Did you get the little cow looking buff stating you would be removed in matter of time? Then you were reported. You have time to get into combat with the oppsoing faction to remove this buff. Attacking an NPC doesn’t do it though. If you did not get the little buff and just booted, I would say you stood still to long, which automatically puts you into /afk mode, which in turn automatically boots you.
Crack some wholesome jokes in chat, when guarding nodes solo.
