In my experience, Alliance is on Offense 95% of the time.
Remove Wintergrasp and bring back Strand of the Ancients if you want vehicle based combat.
Or bring back the BG Blacklist feature so we can blacklist Wintergrasp.
It’s gotten to the point I just leave if I’m on offense because it’s not worth the 20+ minutes in the bg just to lose. At the very least you could make it so if all 3 towers are destroyed, the defenders automatically win.
Mostly on Horde so I am not sure but it’s very possible to win on 3 towers did. Participate and get two kills on initial conflict, go in with full forces protecting vehicles - you can win with just 6-8 siege with a lot of protection. There are 1-2 that leave at the start but hey, they are filled pretty quick
Don’t play Alliance in PvP much so am not sure how it works.
I loved the hell out of Wintergrasp, as well - it was such a fun zone. But it doesn’t work, at all, as a BG.
It’s too asymmetrical to be balanced, too long to have each team play Attack and Defense one after the other … all things that don’t matter in an open world area (especially the length), but as a BG it’s an absolute disaster.
They really ought to rework Epic BGs in general, make it so you don’t have to stick around aaaall the way to the end to get anything out of them. Just long, epic battles you can hop in and out of as you please.
As they are, they feel like a gigantic timesink. Especially WG.
I’d rather it be fixed than removed. I loved Wintergrasp, have some of my best pvp memories of doing it back in Wrath.
One fix I’d recommend: update the raid with level-appropriate bosses with new rewards to the faction which holds the fortress at the end. Then adjust whatever parts of it are causing problems and look at ways to make it more fun. I dunno, maybe have no one holding it at the start and then its up to both teams to brawl and grab equipment to get through the gates and hold off the other side.
I was on Dalvengyr which was a PvP server. During off times when no battle was happening I’d go there to fish, because wouldn’t you know one of the dailies was there, or just go there to mess with Alliance.
I loved it. I miss it.
I do agree. I also need to correct myself, I did do 1 Wintergrasp a few months ago. Nostalgia I guess. It was ok, just seemed like it was missing something.
Back then though it just never seemed to last long enough. Standing out by the doors and trying to get to the gunner’s and avoiding dying. I cant remember how many times someone would be in a vehicle and run over us…lol
Maybe let you leave after a certain time has passed and you keep whatever honor you’ve gotten.
Maybe make it into a free for all zone. Keep it as a BG, same queue’s etc but remove the objectives. Just go in and fight. You’d still get honor, achievement’s if any etc.
Sort of like…Ashran, Alteric Valley, and Island Expeditions. Parts of them all rolled into one.
The closest I can get to what I mean is in Hellfire. Back when you were attacked you could just put out an alarm and everyone came to fight. Guilds come running to help.
Something like that instead of long drawn out objectives. Only objective…fight.
In my experience it’s not quite that bad, but I definitely agree it definitely is around a 80% loss rate for offence.
A thread made a great post on how to fix all epic BG’s (and PvPing in general) and it was a great amount of suggestions especially for Wintergrasp. It was things like Increase towers health by 30-50%, make bottom 2 workshops unable to be captured, Half dmg of flame breath of catapults and put significant dmg into plague barrel instead etc. I’d much rather it (and other epic BG’s) be fixed rather than removed.
I think the changes have made it more fun. I love this BG. I have about 7 loses on Defense and 9 loses on Offense since the changes have been made. Maybe 50ish games played. Way better then before the changes and quicker matches. But horde does seem to win most of the time.
I’m in agreement. It took nearly all of Wrath for band aids to be applied to this BG to “balance” it, and even those were hamfisted.
In its current state, it has no place at all in an RBG queue. I’m still scratching my head as to why SOTA was ditched, seeing as it’s about 100x more balanced right out of the gate.
