Thank you. This is not a good mechanic; it feels clunky and is horrible in PVP. Spriests were better in CATA.

The complete change in spec identity combined with a badly functioning mechanic. Blizzard knows. They either dont care or we will see changes in 9.0, my pessimism leans toward the former.
If they do consolidate spec identity to stronger class identity it could very well hurt shadow as it is so different from other priests.
Honestly even though it feels weaker than the CoP instant Mind Blasts + Devouring Plague + 2x proc’d Mind Spikes we used to have back in Draenor / Panda, I really love the identity and the feel of voidform. Wish they wouldn’t change it but rather add something to it aside from Void Bolt. Maybe make us spawn the tentacles we had in Legion for every 4-5 stacks, idk.
Or… make void form a talent and make it have different abilities (upgrades) than normal shadow form. I don’t like the idea that every Spriest was forced to have this new mechanic… it is so easy to LOS in PVP (when you’re not being trained as soon as it pops).
Agreed, I had the most fun on my Shadow Priest during Cata. Loved the utility had hymns, constant VE, going into disc for wings, It was just amazing and I loved every second of it.
I agree, Void Form feels weird to use and doesn’t really add anything extra to the playstyle other than using void bolt when it comes off cd… It’ be nice if they changed void eruption to a full burst ability like starsurge or chaos bolt for example, and void bolt instantly doing 50% of our dot damage, with the damage being higher for every dot we have active. That’d be so satisfying.
I absolutely loved Wod Spriest both in PvP and PvE, and If that playstyle ever came back, I’d never look at another alt again.
Honestly not just on void form, but overall on many specs that have had changes in their mechanics, and even in ones that did not. I would just like to see the classes an specs get a choice we could take to use different mechanics, even if this choice were a talent-like choice you could change at some point would be fun.
When they had the artifact weapons that would have been a perfect time to do this, giving us new artifact weapons each expansion to level up that changed our class/spec mechanic putting new life into the gameplay. This would also allow you to customize your playstyle to what you enjoyed, without taking away a style of play others might enjoy, but more so the devs could come up with new playstyles to use without just abandoning the older styles.
I mean, as far as PvP goes, you should always expect things to be clunky. They just gave a hamfisted 10% PvP healing nerf to Resto druids and they’re still the prominent healer after that. If they did that for any other content in the game, it would be absolutely mind boggling if that were the same result. At some point they probably just really don’t care about that side of the game.
Other than that, flavor-wise and feel, I find it a bit more fun here 
VE is so useless now. I’d prefer it be constant and weaker than 85% on a 2 min cooldown… I really find it strange that people are looking to Vanilla/classic to get that class identity back… not even a nostalgia thing, but more of a gameplay one.
