Remove Voice Chat

It was a bad idea to begin with. The majority of players use Discord or some other 3rd party platform. There is no sense in having just one more process running on our computers for no reason. Blizz should throw in the towel and remove it from the game.

I don’t think it should be removed rather just making it an option to run in the background or not

that and having to restart every update tuesday because the voice is open because someone hit the wrong button and opened up the voice window.

If you do, the battle.net client will forcibly “update” almost every time you open it, and will put both voice.exe files back in the utils folder.

Launch the game manually.

Agreed 100%.

I still remember when they delayed a patch years ago just trying to implement voice chat, it was something no one asked for as the majority of players at that time were using TeamSpeak and Ventrilo. Today the vast majority use Discord.

The process & service should both be terminated so more memory can be cleared up for gameplay and not something that is completely redundant.

I use it with my friends frequently, I just don’t agree with the process being on all the time.

Complete removal is not necessary and I would like more steps to be taken to integrate all features of discord ingame in some way, as it’s a complete bother.

Some use it and it hurts no one who doesn’t use it to keep it in the game.

I didnt even know this was a thing. I use discord and only discord. Don’t need any cooldad voice chat program.

The difference is that voice chat is implemented directly into the game via the same system that they added to BNET. It’s as simple as hitting the hotkey and joining the chat channel. In the game.

And honestly, the quality is comparable to Discord. At least in BNET, I assume in-game is the same.

The fact that people would rather make everyone download a 3rd party program and have that running alongside WoW instead of just hitting ‘T’ or whatever when you join a group is kind of insane.

I understand that 3rd party programs came along first, so people are used to them. I understand that that became even more accessible when Discord came along for free.

But I really wish in-game Voice Chat would have taken off. There’s very few advantages to joining a Discord server over in-game chat for short-term groups / pugs.

I also wish voice chat was enabled by default in all 5 man group content. Obviously with an option to disable it. Hell, Overwatch is voice chat by default. Almost every multiplayer console game is voice chat by default. Why not WoW?

Not really much of a point in using blizzards when 3 communities in discord are right there and well established. I just turn my head to the other monitor and go Click.

When it comes to that, bnet voice chat is useless.

You’re talking about communities. I’m talking about hopping in voice for a random dungeon or one-time pug. You don’t need an established server/community for that.

Most people also don’t have multiple monitors, which doesn’t make Discord unusable, but certainly makes it less convenient.

I highly doubt pugs need voice communication…

You’ve clearly haven’t pugged enough to see how groups that try to do harder content without voice go. On average, at least. Obviously any group CAN be successful.

Naw bro. Remove text chat. Voice only from now on.

discord however isn’t just for voice chat I love discord we can talk via other games video chat share memes pictures stream our gameplay to our friends. it is far superior to blizzards remote thing and I agree with you that blizz needs to stop sorry I just wanted more info to say lol

We use it, but honestly, long distance is free for most everyone. Id prefer just using my cell phone with the speaker on than using the system chat.
It seems to use much more data than the game does.
when Ive used my cell phone to play the game the data is barely noticeable, but if we have chat running too its way higher usage.

I think that it should stay because then they can reasonably design encounters that require it such as king mekjatorque in bod which was a fun fight. I don’t think they would or should design fights that voice is essential for if voice was not in the game.

It is silly if it is always on in the background though that should be optional if it’s true.

I would like an option to disable it, not remove it.

In before “But it doesn’t even take 1% of your system resources”, if i’m not using it and if’s just sitting there, then i would like the option to put that into the game itself as i please, even if it is less then 1%.
