Remove visible server tags

Blizzard should remove the ability for us to see what the home-server of players is. By not allowing us to see the server names players wouldn’t have to worry about facing discrimination based on nationality, race, language, or server stigma.

There are a number of servers where players face discrimination, if they dare play on them. Some of these servers include:

Azralon
Nemesis
Quel’thalas
Ragnaros
Moonguard
Proudmoore

Cross-realm play, using the group finder, LFR/LFD, and random battleground queues are a staple in many of the players gameplay. Discrimination against players from these servers is a very common occurrence and is not only unwarranted but is also not beneficial to a healthy game with healthy players.

Not allowing us to see the home-servers of “pugs” will not only help to end this type of discrimination but it will also give us a feeling of a community since we won’t constantly see players from random servers in the open world. It will give us that “server community” feeling again, that a large number of us want back, even if it’s a false perception.

Blizzard, please take serious consideration in removing the ability for us players to see what the home-server of other players is.

Thank you for reading.

I kinda have a thing about selecting people for runs that I know I can communicate with.

Nothing against them, but those tags you listed give me a reason to whisper them to see if they understand English. If they do – cool. If not – sorry.

That is a perfectly valid reason to not select someone.

If you remove server names from characters, I’ll just spend 2 more seconds to look up a persons armory. Cant hide an armory since tons of people have the same name.

That’s fine, you do you but most people won’t take the time to do that. So the end result gives more players a better shot of not being initially judged based on something as trivial as which server they want to call home.

I actually think they should go a step further… and allow us to trade with those on any server too. Including auctions. It’s time this CRZ junk stopped being a half-hearted attempt to broaden the world and make it way more integrated.

There is a challenge when friending folks though - how would you know if your friend was Timmy on Moonguard or Timmy on WyrmrestAccord?

Now, granted, it might not be a good idea to open this way across all realms, we wouldn’t want RP realms being impacted by non-RP playstyles, for example.

Anyway, just my thoughts. I do support pushing the home server tag out of plain view though.

No thanks, I will take a pass on that option. There are valid reasons to try and avoid certain regions that have nothing to do with being racist. It could be a lack of common language or just insane lag.

Is actually quite important in some places and in some events.

Blizzard should never have lumped Latin realms in with non-Latin ones.

Nothing against the players, but this is a game that sometimes really does require communication.

No, a person who is more active than me will just make an addon like raider io that looks at the armory while in game and displays this information. You are not solving the underlying issue. We want to be able to talk to someone if they dont understand something.

You have a mindset that says all discrimination is bad regardless of the context. That mindset is wrong.

Anyone who is pushing any moderately difficult challenge will. It’s hilarious that you think this is simply because they are from LA/BR servers instead of them fulfilling the stereotypes of those servers, like being utterly incompetent, not listening to the leader and being unable to actually communicate.

Blizzard can break any addon they choose at any given time.

:woman_shrugging:

They could also act on actually bad discrimination and yet it takes riots to get a generic message from them about it. Blizz wont act unless their forced.

Same name on different servers feels like the critical reason to keep server names. That and the folks who’d just whisper people to check they can communicate sort of negates any benefit to removing server names. They could probably put a #randomnumber after our names if they do away with servers, but folks would still whisper each other to check language.

Other solution for OP is roll or transfer to a server that’s not chronically discriminated against so they get that server tag after their name. If there’s a big difference.

Yeah, I know there are challenges but Blizzard has been at this thing for awhile now. I bet they have the technical prowess to solve it. Now, whether they solve it and enable us to do great things or they solve it by giving us a replacement no one wants - that’s the gamble. (Portal rooms anyone? Mount equipment? CRZ?)

There’s an app for that…err will be an addon.

How about we delete CRZ?

Players from those servers are terrible, though.

That would be lovely! I have met a lot of wonderful people from these realms and it makes me sad to learn that they are being discriminated against. I’d like Google translate to be automatically implemented in WoW too, that would let us play with a lot more people! Plus, I always get terrible lag and am used to it, so lag isn’t a worry for me.

I’d also like to point out that Spanish-speaking players are in the same boat as we are. If you didn’t speak English, getting into English-only groups would be a nightmare TBH.

Or you know, take some time and pick up a little Spanish? Crazy idea I know,I’m not talking formal full on chats here but some basic phrases.

It isn’t a good idea as then you wouldn’t know who you can trade items like gold. Gold is server specific in trading and not being able to see the server tags anymore means you don’t know who you can actually trade with.

Voting no on not being able to discriminate against Ragnaros.

I’ll be completely honest… I used to think people were overreacting about getting grouped with players from servers like Ragnaros… and to a degree I still do believe that… but after having done a dungeon with someone from Ragnaros recently and having seen the whole dungeon glitching out from a 10,000 ping… I can actually understand why people react they way they do when they see Ragnaros pop up as a server for someone in their group…

The whole run everyone was moving around just fine, attack animations and effects would go off just fine, and everything looked fine… until you saw the damage numbers and health bars… we would get 5-6 hits in each before even one attacks damage would register… enemies would hit the table 4 or 5 times with no damage applied, then boom it all hits at once KOing the tank… and at random intervals mobs we had gone nowhere near would just instant Aggro someone in the party from across the map… occasionally we would all get hit with a random lag spike pushing us all to 10k ping for about 5-10 seconds as well… it was honestly a nightmare… and all of that stopped the instant the player from Ragnaros disconnected…

Now… I don’t think Ragnaros players all deserve the bad rep they have been given… but there are some actually valid reasons behind people not wanting to group with them.
