Remove Valorstones

Valorstones are bad. Here’s why:

  1. Gear requiring two currencies to upgrade is unnecessary bloat. Removing valorstones simplifies the gearing system which is a stated goal by the devs.
  2. Forcing players to spam repeatable content to gather a secondary currency is a bad experience. Personally, this makes me play the game less as I am not interested in farming up Valorstones on alts to get to the content I enjoy.
  3. Time gates already exists on main characters for crests. Removing Valorstones doesn’t really speed up main character gearing, but it drastically improves the alt experience.

Add value where Valorstones rewards were lost:

  1. Increase gold rewards for dungeon/delve and world quest completions.
  2. Add high level crafting mats to renown tracks awards in place of valorstone caches.

It seems like a huge and obvious win to get rid of the entire Valorstone system. Please consider it.

I agree with your ideas in general, i am already discouraged to make alts because of how much crests you need to farm, and the fact that sometimes i still need valorstones without needing crests makes it even worse
(for instance if i get another gear of same ilvl on same slot with better stats)

Agree. If they really want a secondary cost, just make it gold, although I think the crests are more than fine.

Speaking of which… can we have just the same Crest denomination every single expansion, so the tier brand actually sticks? Weathered / Carved / Runed / Gilded crests of < add expansion theme suffix >. Make more distinct icons for them. It’s so confusing that this system seems to get completely renamed for a new expansion.

Yeah this one seems pretty unanimous. Just remove them or make them only work on gear below vet track.

I could even see them going with a system where your valorstone cost for a piece you are spending crests on is 0, but if you are spending 0 crests because of discount (i.e. for sidegrades in the slot), you instead have to spend valorstones. This would lighten the burden on alts heavily while not completely removing purpose (especially since, as mentioned, there is still lower gear early in seasons that has no crest cost to upgrade).

I get the sentiment of the thread, and can largely agree that it would be more fun to just blow through all available crests very early on into the season. Maybe not the best design for what is supposed to be a game with systems and processes built in somewhere, but I understand it.

Which is why the valorstones are there, of course. They meter things out so that we have a measured rate of growth, particularly at the start of the season. First the valorstones are limited, then not before too long its the crests that become limited.

Given everything else that might be better served with attention right now: I’m ok with valorstones staying the way they are. Sorry.

I could see them needed to maybe make the spark but yes as far as the rest of the upgrade system if they don’t make them tradable account wide, I could do without the extra currency grind to be honest.

Yeah, it’s either feast or famine on these things. I’ve not bothered completing some of the Renown vendor quests because I’m always capped except the 1 toon I do M+ on. At least that toon can dump some on a loot box.

This isn’t really true for main characters. Crests were always the issue. Valorstones predominantly affect characters that are played less i.e. alts.

If someone is raid-logging at the start of a season or whatever then yeah, it’s kind of on them but they also aren’t really playing much of the game.

Yeah remove valorstones. They are an awful system. Either I am starved for them, and I can go get pathetic amounts of them 1-5 at a time from snuffling or collecting orbs in the sky, or I am capped at 2000 and wasting all content I do. There is no inbetween. At the bare minimum remove the 2000 cap so I never waste content I do.

Upgrades, specifically for main characters are already limited by crest acquisition. Crests are on a weekly cap until that ultimately gets lifted later in the season. Valorstones are not the limiting factor on the character of primary focus for most players.

I 100% agree!!! There is no need for valorstones. There are just too much currencies in the game that are unnecessary. Crests are enough payment for gear upgrades!

And I do understand valorstones are a reward for world quests but how about instead you give us UNDERCOIN! And add more cosmetics we can buy with UNDERCOIN.

That could be the currency of this expac for a multitude of things. Especially for Cartels! Like we didn’t need 15 different currencies per expansion!

I agree that Valor stones are bad. We were having this discussion is guild 2 days ago. They are pointless and just make it more frustrating to have fun in the game, especially on alts. Even if you kept the requirement for the first time upgrades like they did with crests, that would be better than what we have right now, but getting rid of them would be the best solution imo

Valorstones kicked my dog, seeing them every time I login to the game is traumatising.

Please remove them, crests are already gatekeeping upgrades anyhow.
