People currently are just rolling need on everything regardless of if they need the item for an upgrade or not, and are, most of the time, either keeping something for tmog, or trying to sell it back to the rest of the raid for gold, which makes the tmog and need roll buttons effectively useless since this is being done out of greed. SO, just remove the tmog and need buttons and just have a roll and a pass button at this point.
Or you know, actually do something about this situation. Back in the day people got blacklisted on an entire server for taking loot they didn’t actually need just to sell it, it was called ninja looting, remember that blizzard?
Make it a bannable offense and put it in the social contract, OR, change the loot system yet again to force personal loot in pug groups and LFR, while having guild ran groups being able to still have group loot roll function.
I know you guys can figure this out and I know it’s probably not a high priority, but this has got to stop, it’s damaging to the community when these greedy people are allowed to get away with this new form of ninja looting.

I totally agree with you on this matter. There needs to be a change to how the loot system works. It would be nice if it could scan a player and make the roll option unavailable to roll on if they are wearing better gear and allow them to roll Tmog if that’s why they are rolling.
I’ve mentioned a different change in the past that I think would help with this.
Here’s my take:
People who reguarly clear Normal or higher Raids have ZERO business being in LFR and honestly most of the time when I ask people why they are in there, it’s usually for …you guessed it–tmog. I’m going with the hot take that this isn’t a good enough reason to be in there. (stay with me)
I honestly think that people who can clear higher content should automatically learn all the apparenaces at the levels below a certain item when getting it. I would even argue that the system is already in place for them to do this given that you can upgrade gear using crests and it will automatically take on the newer appearances when it gets leveled up.
For example; If I got into Mythic Nerub’ar Palace and down a boss with a tier token or even just an off-tier item and win that item? It should “teach” me the mythic appearance of that piece as well as ALL of the levels underneath it. Problem solved. There is nothing to gain from putting people who dont belong in super easy content to steal items from people who actually might need them.

you have no way of knowing if they need an item. /thread

People in this thread want to get geared players out of LFR so they have better chances of getting loot. But if those players were gone, you’d have more rolls on every item as they’re replaced with fresh characters and the fights and queues would be longer. Brilliant.

hey i am coming at it from a different angle. I dont want to HAVE to do LFR to learn the appearances. I think that’s a fair trade.

That’s… Precisely how it works. You cannot roll need if you have the same item at equal or better equipped (or the respective gear item for your class if it is a token).

L take. I run LFR for the Fineries so I can carry that buff into mythic.
Unfortunately, people are going to roll on items they want, since it’s a game, nobody needs any of those items. Whether or not you have 5 people roll on that item who “need” it, or 4 people who “need” it and one person for tmog, all the rolls come down to luck. You just want the pool to be less diluted by less participation. We all share in rolling for loot when we are all participating in killing the boss.
I’m cool with this, but keep in mind the side-effects. You won’t have well-geared people running those dungeons/raids for mog to help carry undergeared people through, making LFR even more of a slow and painful endeavor than it already is, as well as shrinking the pool of players engaging with it, increasing queue times.
LFR should just be personal loot. It’s wild that it’s not.
But that just means transmog in most pugs or LFR will likely never win. If they do that, they need to do something for transmog farmers as well, like dropping the exact same piece as appearance only or something else.
again…just teach the lower appearances automatically when you learn the higher ones. This is such an easy problem to solve.
ANd to the person above—sorry but i dont support 'carries"…so i dont give two poops if that means LFR is full of people who actually belong there.
Bump, this solution makes a ton of sense, is way better for the community and collectors
Agreed here.
Unfortunately, Blizzard clearly does based on their history of allowing this and acquisition of other useful things in LFR for as long as it’s been around. I’d like to see them change their stance on this, but it’s been pretty damn consistent since Dragon Soul, except for the anomaly that was WoD LFR.
