These restrictions are ridiculous to have in place.
I used to play a lot back in the day. Then took a hiatus because life comes up. Recently I decided to renew my subscription to give classic a shot. I did check out the retail side to see what it was like (all my main characters were squished back to lvl45 and had to sort out their bags). But then I made a character on the Era servers and a character on the SoD servers.
As soon as I got the quests to get to Stormwind, I was hit with the “that action is restricted” when I tried to use the auction house. I was not aware before hand that there was any restrictions put in place, and secondly this is NOT a new account or trial account. This is a fully functional long standing account I am talking about.
I cant auction extra materials to get money for bags. I cant auction off any crafted items. This is like being forced into “self found” mode and that is unacceptable. It is a struggle to make enough on both the Era and SoD servers to keep up with spell training, let alone professions.
You are not able to trade with others, as soon as you put anything in the trade window it closes. But others ARE able to trade/give you stuff. But if you have anything to give to another player, you are outright denied.
Cant make bank toons to mail extra stuff to because the mail system is broken. You either need to spend money on bags from the vendor or level tailoring with limited resources you need to find. But you also need to decide between buying bags or buying spells.
I have contacted several GMs. No one has any power to remove the restrictions placed on accounts like this. I was basically told that i need to wait until my month of playtime is up and then the restrictions are lifted. That is beyond UNACCEPTABLE. I paid for a month of play time for a product, I am given essentially HALF a product. Whatever fun I was having in the Season of Discovery is being vastly overshadowed by the unfun these restrictions are having.
I was talking to a friend about joining me in classic, but if they have to deal with this unfriendly practice i know they wont stick around. So I wont even waste their time with it.
I didnt pay for a restricted demo Blizzard, remove the restrictions for me please.
Indeed, I had a friend who started recently and mentioned he used to play a long time ago. He had an account on Battle.net and wanted to try out SoD. Once he started, he couldn’t participate in any trading or use the auction house to progress in the game (professions, for example). It’s the worst way to play an MMO for an actual real person, and 30 days is just way too much. I understand this is to prevent botting, but it’s actually screwing over new people. They didn’t bother continuing because of how restrictive it was. Cool design.
But this isnt a new account like they claim for the restrictions. I have paid for well over 100 months of game time back when I did play. This is not a new account made recently
You’d not “purchased and consumed one month of gametime” for a long time?
Stolen credit cards which are activating/reactivating accounts (which also could be stolen to then bot/farm for gold to sell) are the why of this policy it seems.
Bug Report forum seems to indicate that there were some edge cases but most seem to be resolved. Did you check in the Classic Bug Report forum? If you submitted a ticket and appealed then you may have already gotten your final answer.
inactive is not the same as new. They said the restrictions is for new accounts.
Still doesnt change the fact this is a bad policy for the fun of legit accounts.
Even if I wasnt a returning player, the 300% bonus to quest gold does nothing to offset the costs of training new spells for a new player. Right now after doing questing, i dont have enough to train more than 3 of the 11 spells available at 22. I have to pick between healing spells or damage spells.
I had to level tailoring to make bags because only 1 dropped out of the 20 levels. But instead of being able to sell blue or red linen shirts (which go for about 40s on the AH) I had to resort to selling them at vendors for 75c. You are acting like this is all well and good, regardless of the reason for them making this change.
Do yourself a favor, make a new character on the classic or SoD servers and level it to 20. Dont use any mail, auction house, or trading, and tell me that its a fun time or that its acceptable for anyone to be subjected to it. Instead of gatekeeping because you have already been subscribed and this doesnt affect you, put yourself in the shoes of a new player and see that this is a horrible game policy.
I play HC (which is indeed Classic) electing to use the Self Found ruleset on official servers.
That means that the game does not allow me to use mail or the auction house or trade with another of my own accounts or other players. So I do have some idea of the impact and I chose that life.
I’m having a blast in HC.
I’m not “gatekeeping”. That’s all Blizzard. They say that it is for the greater good to help slow/deter bots and cheating. I’m sorry that has affected you adversely. Hope that month’s time passes quickly for you or you find some fun in another Classic offering. HC is baller.
Could you expand on, “we’re preventing those accounts from transferring in-game wealth to other players (mail, trade, auction).” What wealth would a new account have to transfer? I am I misunderstanding this?
I am under the restriction too, and I think it is ridiculous as well. But I understand it is not specifically your call to make, so I guess I’ll just have to wait for the first month to pass. At this point though I am just curious as to what specifically this restriction stops from occurring.
