Why has this still stuck around? Wasn’t it introduced in Shadowlands?
Do people actually enjoy the material clutter?

It was introduced with the crafting overhaul in Dragonflight, the idea being that worse crafters can make better items if they use better materials, or better crafters being able to get a better result out of worse materials.
No, but the entire crafting system of Dragonflight and War Within is predicated on the existence of material quality. I hate it too, but I don’t think it’s an easy fix (even if blizz wanted to fix it).
Ive mentioned this before but, i find it amusing that just as FFXIV decided that players didnʻt actually enjoy ranked materials at gathering nodes and got rid of that system, WOW steps in and copies their ranked gathered materials system.

If they want to keep copying others homework, at least do as FFXIV does now:
All gathered materials are of one rank but you can increase the rank of the material by refining it at your crafting stations - hard to do at low crafting levels, much easier to get higher ranks of materials at higher crafting levels
That part of the system very much exists whole and intact in current gathering professions.
Which i feel makes one side or the other of the equation redundant
you dont need to refine 3 star materials if you can just gather them

I don’t mind the 3 ranks in general, but the inventory clutter IS very annoying. It’s also annoying that even with max skill it takes full tier 3 mats to craft a tier 3 cauldron without using concentration, imo if you have the max skill that can be acquired via specializations and gear then you should at least be able to tier 3 craft with half tier 2 and half tier 3 mats. The concentration cost for being off by a single skill point is also ridiculous.
but it’s nice to get extra 3 star materials without needing to refine everything.
I have a question. I kind of skipped tradeskills in Dragon Flight as they were a bit much. TWW eased off the gas a little and now I’m nearing max knowledge in Enchanting.
What happens when you max out these seemingly infinite tradeskill grinds?
Nothing super special. Once you no longer need acuity for profession stuff you can buy mats with them.
Already have too many mats as it is ![]()
