I’m in total agreement with you, and I’ll forever get hate on this, but there is one way to get them to stop messaging you during (and I’m not talking about disabling chat).
It won’t happen overnight, but consistently applied negative punishment is a proven method for decreasing unwanted behaviors (e.g., if a [man] child throws a tantrum (rage whispers you), and you take away their toy (the shuffle lobby they likely spent 20-40+ minutes waiting for), they will eventually learn to associate the tantrum with the loss of their toy and may be less likely to throw tantrums in the future).
I say “may be less likely” because unfortunately there will inevitably be some that never learn or don’t care.
True now that I think about it.
I used to enjoy them, especially when they were post lobby, but that was back when I could talk trash back without having to worry about my account being banned.
Can’t really talk trash anymore without risking your account, and nowadays people like to talk their trash and then put you on ignore so you can’t respond anyway.
I do get a little kick out of the automated blizzard warning that pops up letting me know that what I’ve been whispered is probably offensive (or something like that). I still always click to see what was said though because it just makes me curious lol.
There are layers of things that add to the toxicity of people, and anonymity is most certainly one of those layers. This isn’t an opinion, it’s acknowledged fact.
Most people are just toxic. You’re not going to see well adjusted people being toxic online just because they’re anonymous. That’s like blaming something bad you did while intoxicated on alcohol.
Like imagine being a lawyer and defending a person with a DUI and your defense being: “it was the alcohol your honor. My client was too drunk to know what he was doing when he got behind the wheel.”
Guy doesn’t understand that the base level of anonymity is what my point is about, and is the barrier to toxicity for a majority of people.
Layering of anonymity is irrelevant to my main point. Which is that anonymity breeds toxicity, which you agree with. This classic toon has the same name as my retail toon has for 10 years.
All chat. My only problem with the in game one is that it’s all chat so i can’t talk in guild or see guild chat.
But yes, it completely turns every chat possibility off
I do agree that anonymity breeds toxicity. But layering of anonymity is completely relevant as it increases the likelihood and degree of toxicity someone would be willing to engage in.
Perfect example would be Swole when he comes on the discord. The things he said when he did are things that he absolutely wouldn’t say here (and even less chance of him saying them irl). Instead he just claims it wasn’t him and moves on. If he didn’t have that option that conduct wouldn’t occur.
Absolute best thing in the world to see when I come up off the bike or out of the car and see those windows roll up or the hands go to 10&2 hard grip on the wheel as they stare straight ahead frozen. No need to even say anything at that point, big bad dude who was yelling and flaling wildly with anger from behind his windshield 20seconds earlier knows he’s the bish.
Only happens about once every couple of years Ill get angry enough to do that, but its always enjoyable.
What kinda bike, I’m curious about them and have been debating getting them. Seems like quite a set up to go get all the gear + learn to ride + take the classes + get the license + just get wingclipped by some prius.
That’s my biggest hangup. You can be the most conscientious person on the road and you still can’t perfectly control for idiots. I used to ride a long time ago but now that I have a family it just feels like an unnecessary risk.
I could probably get away with riding where I live now, but back in Washington? Nah.
All the bikers are pretty cool that I’ve run in to, but man I see some youtube videos of them just getting absolutely obliterated doing everything right.
Idk man, dude sitting at the stoplight and a random truck runs a light hits another truck that flies in to the biker and leaves him with life long injuries
I ride on the street much less than I used to, just not as enjoyable. 100% take an MSF class if you decide to get one - the defensive riding techniques that aren’t intuitive to new riders are the real gold from those courses. Can’t even begin to count the number of times I’d have been greased over the years were it not for being able to see accidents unfolding seconds before inevitable impact and adjusting accordingly. Motorists just don’t see bikers, even before the advent of smartphones, which made things far worse. Gotta be hypervigilant.
As easy as it is to blame dipshi screen zombies driving around oblivious in their cages, which is definitely a thing, motorcyclists themselves are still their own worst enemies. Majority of crashes and fatalities on bikes are single vehicle.
Yeah, I don’t think anyone denies this. Outside of that though, the problem is you’re smaller, less visible to most drivers, and when they mess up theres nothing between you and them. Not to mention the fact that there are some drivers who deliberately drive like idiots around riders for God only knows what reason.
Yeah you clipped the actual important part which is whatever…
No training, minimal training, miminal experience but riding like they know what they’re doing, having no idea how to properly react in a panic situation, not considering everchanging road conditions, overestimating abilty, etc are the big culprits. Riding while drunk is on the list too, which while not unique to bikers obviously, is still a thing (god know why, but w/e let em weed themselves out I have no sympathy). Regardless the reasons, more bikers crash or die all on their own than when a 2nd vehicle is involved. I stopped being surprised probably 10yrs ago at the number of riders who cant even tell you what countersteering or trailbraking are.
