Remove Need for Catalyst Charges for Lower ilvl Tier Pieces for Transmog

As an appearance collector with limited bag and bank space… Once we have an equipment slot occupied by a higher iLvl piece of tier, why can’t Blizzard remove the need for Catalyst Charges to convert a lower iLvl item for that same slot into tier for transmogrification/ collection during the same tier/patch? My bags/banks are filling up with Veteran and Champion pieces I cannot afford to spend a catalyst charge on until I have converted gear I need to wear for gameplay. With the vault delivering higher iLvl gear weekly and catalyst charges being throttled , I am running out of places to save gear for future conversion. This would not affect gameplay but would let us instantly convert gear for transmog appearances and clear the bags and banks. Help us Blizzard!!!

You can always hold items till the next season. Previous season converts for free.

True, but the upgrade system turns off for those when their season is done, so you’d have to have a full set for each tint. Hence the concern about storage space.

But you can’t upgrade previous season items. Meaning you can’t get both the LFR and Normal version from a Veteran track item.

Not true at all for season 4 of dragonflight… we all voted on the tier we preferred and you were locked into appearances from season 1, 2 or 3 for each class and the other 2 were unobtainable at all.

But her point still stands. If you held your set from S3 it would still convert to an S3 set.

Furthermore S1 Normal/Heroic were available from FR, S2 was available by converting the Coalescing Essence gear/time rift (albeit LFR).

To get LFR & Normal tier appearances you convert a Veteran piece at 1-4/8 (TWW) for the LFR look then upgrade it with valorstones to 5/8 for the Normal appearance. To get Heroic & Mythic appearances tier appearances you convert a Heroic piece at 1-4/6 for the heroic tier look then upgrade that to 5/6 for the mythic appearance. A champion piece converted at 1-4/8 gives Normal look and at 5/8 gives the heroic look.

So the most efficient way to get all the appearances is to just convert ONLY veteran and heroic pieces for the LFR & Heroic looks … and upgrade those pieces to the Normal and Mythic looks with valor stones. This is 16 catalyst charges. If you do not have the veteran or heroic pieces and convert champion & mythic pieces it would take even more charges.

But we do not get our gear in a linear fashion or the heroic helm you got last week and converted is now replaced with a new heroic helm that comes with a socket or tertiary stats… so you use many more charges during the season for the gear you are playing with. So 16 charges is a bare minimum but likely to take many many more to get the appearances.

Sure you can wait until the next season you have to now hold:

  • up to 8 veteran pieces at 1-4/8;
  • up to 8 veteran pieces upgraded to 5/8;
  • up to 8 heroic pieces at 1-4/6; and
  • up to 8 heroic pieces upgraded to 5/6
  • MINUS any pieces you already have the appearances for.

As you see this can mean holding many pieces in your bank/bags for a season if you wanted to take advantage of free catalyst charges in the next season.

Just asking for a reasonable change … for free charges for any lower ilevel tier pieces than the highest tier piece in each slot that you already own in a CURRENT season.

Fair suggestion

It might just be worth them granting us the lower level appearance when we unlock the higher one. That’ll save us charges.

I have all of the Normal/Heroic done but like you say I have prioritised gearing over appearance.

I feel like it would be simpler for Blizzard to just add ensembles for the tier set appearances.

Could be a good valorstone dump for those that are capped.

Exactly what I’m doing. Throwing pieces into void storage until season two.

Bro you have like your own bag, then you have your bank, what kinda stuff are you keeping since all gear is appearances

The least they could do is not require a charge for back, wrists, belt and boots.

I have legion artifact weapons, rare drop items, all my legendaries from every xpac/raid/etc, 12+ or more teleport items (rings, backpieces, necklaces to locations, dungeons, raids), rare items that unlock bosses or rooms in dungeons or locations, a few collections, standards/flags for bgs and rep farming, rare tabbards and other things that should be toys but have not yet been acted on by blizzard. My void storage, bags and bank are full pretty much… last 10-20 spots taken by gear for xmog conversions.

Oh and let’s not forget the tank set, the dps set, the healing set and the 2-3 pvp sets of gear in my bags that I play in. It is particularly a problem for my druid but affects all the characters that play tank & dps or tank, heal &/or dps.

If you can freely convert items lower than what you have or even automatically learn all recolours lower than what you’re learning there would be less problems in LFR with higher geared players rolling on loot for transmog.

This would 100% be my vote. Get the normal and you also get the LFR. Get the mythic and you get LFR, normal, and heroic with it. Etc.

This would be a great change, I would even like if they went back to older stuff too. For example if I have a set from mythic Nightspire give the normal and heroic and LFR versions too.

Until then I have really stopped transmog farms unless I see something I really like it’s just too much time

Whoever decided it needed to be a once a two week thing is an enemy to the players’ full stop. Even weekly is mental, but I could get behind it. Two weeks makes Final Fantasy 14 look like a million dollars. 8 weeks to gear vs . the 18 weeks it would take to collect the appearance of a whole set. I don’t think it needs to be said that if that person was on fire, we’d look the other way.

It’s the same moron who decided that gear can’t be upgraded. When I got my first peice of veteran gear to 8/8 I assumed the next logical step was it went up a tier with enough currency only to find out I had to rng get a higher tier of gear.

It’s like nothing they do benefits the players in any way and only wastes our time while milking us dry.

I mean i have all that too, if you look i have hidden rogue artifact lol … dont look like you have the love rocket but i do

LOL the point is not that I have all that, the point is my bags are full on my mains… so holding veteran, champion, heroic & mythic gear pieces for one or all tier appearance slots until the following “free catalyst conversions” is difficult to impossible for all my mains, and is even a pain of organization on my alts. I collect all class appearances every season. If i could convert lower ilevel gear to the lower level tier appearances “as I went” in current content it would be a ‘god send’ so to speak. Or better yet the suggestions above to just grant all lower tier appearances from whatever your current higher tier set has. That would take away both the organizational mental strain, as well as the bags/bank bloat stress.

best solution for the moment is to just have multiple of the same class since each individual toon has charges. i use other mage toons for the low end gear for mog and my main uses charges for the higher ends stuff
