Idk, maybe this is an unpopular take, but can we just be done with needing a physical key to run m+?
the system, right from the start back in legion, just felt arbitrary and unnecessary, like blizz wasnt sure how m+ was going to play out, so they were just trying random stuff.
Physical keys, imo, are the main reason for the LFG problem that exists within m+. If you remove keys, yeah, LFG will still be total beans, but it would definitely improve at least a little, without the fear of your key being depleted if you invite the wrong people. its just feels like the system has evolved well past the point of physical keys even making sense.
proposed solution:
key advancement based on party leader’s progression.
so you could keep a physical key, of sorts, i guess, but just use it differently:
-upon reaching level 80, players automatically receive a keystone at a +2 level (not associated with any dungeon, just says “Mythic Keystone +2”). this keystone allows the holder to activate the font at the start of the dungeon, selecting the difficulty from a drop down (+2 being the only one available yet).
-once all dungeons have been completed on a +2 level, a players keystone upgrades to +3, allowing +3 as an option when starting a dungeon, IF they are the party leader. and so on.
simple. now depletions arent a thing (which again, is just such an arbitrary, pointless part of the m+ system). this is particularly dumb when you deplete a key you needed for io score, and now, you either have a key level of the same dungeon that you dont need score from, or you completed the untimed run, and now have a key for a dungeon that you dont need, and HOPE you key randomly rerolls into the one you want.
now, i understand that people generally dont want to go 1 keystone level at a time. and thats completely fair. solution to that:
-++ and +++ a key counts for progression. if you +++ all of your +2 dungeons, your keystone will be upgrades to +5. likewise, ++ = +4.
-this is also why i specified “party leader”. if you’re gearing an alt, or just want a faster progression, or have friend helping you, or whatever it may be, you can run keys higher than your personal keystone, as long as the party leader has the correct keystone difficulty unlocked. even if your keystone is a +2, but you complete all dungeons on a +10 because someone else had that unlocked, now your +2 turns into a +11.
im sure a lot of people won’t agree with this post, and i know im going to get roasted here, but i genuinely think that the Key system is so arbitrary and unnecessary to M+, and that something like what i proposed would make the system infinitely healthier. im sure there are problems with my system as well, and I know you will all point them out, but thats fine. I want to hear people’s thoughts.
should the system be reworked/removed?
is it fine the way it is?
