Remove Ascendance

Am I the only one that feels like the shaman class is shackled by having an insanely strong CD?

I feel like we are really limited in class design because of this button, and Ele particularly atm feels horrible when it’s not active.

Maybe I’m only 1 though.

Remove ascendance. Bring APM down a bit, and make each move hit harder and feel more meaningful. Class would feel really smooth.

It’s very odd having lightning bolt/chain lightning be practically filler unless my 3 rng procs happen. (Ele in this case.) Chain lighting without modifiers hits like an actual pool noodle.

Nah I don’t think it’s shackled by ascendance they just struggle to tune it. For ele specifically it should be much easier now that there is no DRE but we haven’t seen much tuning for ele in general despite the fact it’s not great in any content at this point. It’s okay in m+, decent in raid, bad in pvp. I think the main issue with ascendance though is that anything you buff outside of ascendance will naturally get buffed inside of it, so ideally they make small adjustments to it while buffing spells outside of it.

Realistically you could say this about every class that has a 1 or 2 min cd. I don’t think the issue is ascendance and I wouldn’t want to see it removed at all

Druids gets Tree cooldown, which is arguably even stronger than what we have, AND just get more than anything we get.

Ascendance is in the game as a hard counter to certain classes, removing it would require a ton of pvp balancing, not just for Shaman.

You sort of hit the nail on the head.

We can’t operate with a high dps outside of ascendance windows because then ascendance windows will become too powerful.

This was kind of my point at “is the class limited” I agree that lots of 2-3 mins cds could fall under same boat, but only one that I feel does is Moonkins incarnation.

I don’t think its healthy for class design to be limited by a long CD. I feel it is limiting the class.

Yup. Enhancement was more fun and felt better before Ascendance. I hate being balanced around a three minute instakill window and nothing else. And wolves is more iconic anyway. Wolves + Doom Winds please and thank you.

I would also prefer wolves as a cooldown over ascendance. For Ele I don’t know, maybe a proper elemental could be the cooldown. Resto clearly has other cooldowns to rely on in their big totem, a possible return of some that got pruned as well.

I have just always hated Ascendance due to the absurd lore and visuals. I miss the WoD glyph :weary_face:

I disliked Ascendance as a CD as well, but only because while the visuals with it are cool it doesn’t really change anything rotationally or do anything but a Voltaic Blaze and LB. Your overloads do more damage and your overloads get another overload, but that’s pretty boring. I don’t really like our mastery anyway but I know most masteries are about the same, but I don’t understand why Ascendance just makes our passive more…passive.

I wish it would do something more or different but I honestly can’t even think of what I’d want as Ele because the spec feels so hollow at the moment rotationally and we have so many things that have potential but there’s no synergy with the kit.

I think Ascendance at this point is more iconic but I guess it depends. Also its a 2 minute CD because you take Thorims if you take Ascendance.

Its not like we don’t have wolves either, we have access to Feral Spirit in the spec tree and Rolling Thunder in Stormbringer. Every Ascendance gets 2 wolves with it, and when Doom Winds procs it also gets 2 wolves with it, I’ve had 2 DW procs and 4 wolves out at once was pretty cool.

So again its not like we lost wolves at all, they’re still up during our Cds they’re just passively activated instead of being their own button which is fine since we popped wolves with Ascendance anyway when wolves were a CD.

Overall I like Ascendance for Ele and Enh, definitely for Enh. Looks cool visually, is a ranged CD, does good damage. Every spec is balanced around some sort of CD, some classes have 2 mins and some have 1 mins.
