Removal of raid timers for Anniversary edition

Why should we still have raid timers at all at this point in the game?

The raid timers are there to limit pacing and to promote a scarcity of loot. You’re not supposed to be able to spam them 24/7 and gear up faster. I’m not really a fan of time gating but it’s probably a good thing in this context as the WoW player base has proven, time and again, that they will engage in some rather sketchy behaviour to get ahead.

I think I understand where you’re coming from though. On Era this isn’t an issue. I have all the time in the world to get my character progressed and feel no pressure to gear up faster. Anniversary is a weird space where the game’s timeline has been halved but no further changes to its model were made. I don’t really have a strong answer for you, just some points to maybe consider…

  • You don’t need to be full BiS as you transition between tiers.
  • You don’t need to be full BiS before you transition to TBC.
  • If you’re competitive, everybody else is in the same boat as you are. Some will get lucky, some won’t. That’s the nature of the game.
  • If you do want a slower pace, Era is here for you. You can join Mankrik/Whitemane if you want a populated environment for PvE/PvP, including GDKP/monetization. Join Grobbulus if you want a more sparse vibe without monetization.

I have no idea what’s happening with Anniversary… whether or not TBC will go Era or if it will just go to WotLK a year after that. It’s one of the reasons why I’m not really participating… but it’s for sure going to TBC at least, so your Vanilla loot is probably not going to matter all that much in the grand scheme of things. You can be pretty effective in almost all the game’s raid content in dungeon BiS.

Good luck!

neither SoD or retail has this

The sad part is that bwl is notorious for just not dropping certain tier pieces after 20+ clears. That is not going to feel good on a shortened schedule.

Well that’s too bad.

Loot should probably be doubled, no reason to remove the raid timers tho.

Haha for sure! It took me aaaaaaaages to get a rejuv gem on my Resto Druid.

It definitely can feel bad but again, I don’t think we were ever intended to get the best possible item in each slot. At least, not in the Vanilla game. I think the evidence of this lies in the fact that the power difference between items is usually fairly small. I was a contributing healer (ie, not a carry) in Naxx for many months using the Royal Seal and Darkmoon Card: Blue Dragon before I got upgrades.

I think it’s easy to forget that BiS is a player-made construct, not a Blizzard made construct. I think it’s also easy to forget that this game was built around guilds… so even if you don’t get that super awesome piece of loot, someone in your guild might and that will overall help your team’s progress.

The shortened schedule is just weird for a game like this, I don’t really know why Blizzard did this. Folks asked for TBC and Blizzard gave them a weirdly accelerated Vanilla. I think the only real appeal of Anniversary is “fresh” so you can progress through the tiers at an appropriate power level, which you can still do. It takes cognitive effort to be sure, but I highly recommend doing your best to set aside gear envy on those servers.

Or, as I said, come to Era. On Grob specifically we throw pretty great loot at new players because nobody else needs it, lol. Come for the phat epix, stay for the bi-weekly old man grouch fest!

Being the only druid in the raid and not seeing all 8 pieces of tier 2 before naxx is gonna feel worse because of the shortened schedule is all I am saying.

I want to end up doing tbc this time around and I think GDKP has taken era far away from the vanilla experience. Otherwise I’d consider going back to era

I wouldn’t mind removing the time gating. I think it would make the game more fun.

I understand, I’m just advocating for a mindset change. You might get gear or RNJesus might smite you and you won’t. It’s just gonna be a thing that is and we can’t really do anything about it.

I wish you the best of luck with your drops but I promise you that you can still enjoy your raiding experiences even if you don’t them!

I agree here, but I know this is a contentious subject and people have varying opinions. Fortunately, Grobbulus is a realm that is completely free of GDKP (and monetization in general). We are a server of less than 100 players across both factions. We farm all our own consumables and work together to help each other succeed. Come check us out  Search for posts by Jarl-Grobbulus for more details.

Note that Blizzard, in their infinite wisdom, has shut down transfers into Grobulus because they “felt it was a money trap” (lulz). So if you want to come play with us, you’ll have to level from scratch. There are lots of people who are happy to help you out when needed though.

Can a server really self-police to that degree? Genuinely asking

So you can’t spam raids and get BIS?

Seems obvious.

It’s not really self-policing… it’s just a product of the server’s population. There’s only one guild on Alliance and one on Horde and less than 100 players between us both. Gold has no value on our server… what is there to buy? If you want something, you go out and get it, or coordinate a trade with someone else in the guild. Given that, how could a GDKP could never get off the ground. What would be the point?

Smaller servers are just so much better and have actual communities. That’s what Classic should be about.

Naxxramas was out before I finally got 8/8 T2, way back when.
Dragonstalker Gloves just would not drop for me.

oh this sounds awful. Only one guild is dead

MC, BWL, Ony and all the dungeons are indeed.

AQ and Naxx are a lot more consistent

This is Exhibit A for why you don’t let players decide the development direction of a gaming product.
