Removal of PvE Realms

But imagine if the server was balanced because it wasn’t Horde dominated since Alliance weren’t all just on the PvE realms. Still might get ganked, but maybe not as bad?

Ever see the movie “American Sniper”? In the beginning of the movie, the actor quotes something that the father of Chief Chris Kyle told his son. To paraphrase, “there are three kinds of people in this world, the sheep, the wolves, and the sheep dogs. You have to decide what kind of person you are going to be.”

This was something that stuck with him when he decided to enlist and protect the sheep of the world from wolves after 9/11.

This mentality does not go away simply because we log into a virtual world. A great many people just either cannot or do not want to handle pvp combat for a variety of reasons. They are the sheep. Those players are why PvE servers exist.

As one friend, who played pvp servers back in the day, put it to me, she and her husband decided to roll on a pve server because they didn’t want to deal with the stress that comes with pvp. They want a place where they can login peacefully and goof around and have fun.

One day I’m going to take one of my alts and create a guild called Care bear Stare. Assuming that the name hasn’t already been taken.

You will note that I am on a pvp server. All my friends rolled pve, however.

It makes complete sense as to why someone would want to play on a PvE realm, myself included in some situations.

That being said, you don’t think that it feeds into the imbalance problem? PvE realms remove that feeling of the world being dangerous, one of the big reasons I loved Classic was not feeling like a God and steamrolling through everything I touched. Classic makes me feel vulnerable.

One of the things I plan to engage in on my PvE server is provocative acts like killing horde npcs in small villages. Probably guards and woodsmen type characters so as not to grief.

It’s quite different from random ganking. This is a CD warfare game, not a wholesale murder game.

Eh, doubt it. People gank and corpse camp all day, especially rogues. I don’t mind fighting someone my level, but the ganking pushed me to a PvE server because I literally could not get anything done.

Now playing horde on a horde dominated PvP server that’s something I’ll do.

PvP problems just require PvP solutions. Anytime I’ve been camped I’ve etiher had to A) git gud or B) git friends.

Yes, you surely need to “git good” when you’re 35 and camped by a 60 rogue. “Git friends” yes waiting an hour for people to come save me is how I wanna spend my time. Logging for the day is not a solution either. Nty.

Do you mean “no PVE servers”?

I feel like even on a PVE server that Classic is like that way more than retail. You can definitely get taken down by things you don’t expect.

Yeah… if PvE servers were to get removed, I’d probably quit the game. I’ve never been a big fan of pvp, but occasionally I like to do it when I choose to. I don’t like getting ganked and camped. It’s why I play on a PvE server.

I’d imagine there are a ton of people like me.

yes probably. I’ll go fix that.

Sometimes I think people are so fearful of being camped for hours by a skull they realize that it rarely happens in an area where others 60s aren’t. Or that everyone at 60 wants to go camping for no rewards.

I can remember once being camped by a skull until I had to log (STV late at night, 13 years ago), been playing the game for 14 years too.

Like they would ever get rid of PvE…why are we even discussing this. How about if you have an issue with faction imbalance you reroll.

Someone has difficulty thinking outside of the box :stuck_out_tongue:

Until horde can attack horde, and alliance can attack alliance, there isn’t true PVP servers.

What good does it do us if we’re in a green zone like Barrens or Elwynn forest and cannot contest quest mobs? How do you PVP when there isn’t opposing faction in such areas?

You all want to deal with the faction imbalance. This is how you do it. That way the overpopped faction can simply PVP itself.

Haven’t heard that one before, other then arenas, but I could only imagine the chaos it would bring.

No.

You’d see fewer people playing Classic, period.

A big part of the problem is the kind of player each faction draws to it.

People with the hardcore and aggressive PvP mindset tent to migrate to factions that exemplify how they think and feel. The fact that Horde, overall, has better racials for PvP only makes it worse. As such, if you eliminated all PvE realms, you would still find most if not all servers Horde dominated.

You also find the sociopaths drawn to horde as well more often. Those are the players who like to gank for no other reason than to gank. Revenge, RP, nothing factors into their decision to mass murder other than their own sense of glee and feeling of power.

You do find these players on Alliance as well, just not nearly as often as you do on Horde.

Alliance tends to draw those looking for other things, especially explorers, PvErs, lore seekers, and so forth.
