Has there been any discussion about them removing phasing/layering on pvp servers after the first month?
This is unwanted by any sane Wpvp player that rolls on a pvp server for the rivalries and pvp. This is what we wanted in Classic and I don’t believe it happened? This is a massive L for me personally if this is going to be a layering mess with people phasing in and out or can be abused with invite hopping.
Why not introduce layering for only the first month of each level cap unlock and eventually abolishing it altogether.
They probably need to layer capital cities to avoid them becoming painfully laggy. And although world pvp zergs are enhanced by the experience of stop-motion timing, it would also making getting into raids at raid times too frustrating an experience.
So, they would at least need some layering “regions” to just ensure people aren’t wasting their time watching a slideshow.
My guess is layering will be in for most of SoD life span. Especially if Blizz takes the approach to servers that “less is more” and only gives 3-5 servers. But one can hope
Blizzard will never allow players to ‘opt out’ of mechanisms put in place to preserve server integrity. You, Blizzard and everyone reading this knows that if they did what you are asking the forums would immediately melt down into “fix your #$@$@# servers!” and “omg small indie company” etc etc.
What a shame, that’s terrible to hear. Guess we can look forward to troll and broken gimmicks in pvp, so much for potential wars being fought that aren’t super one sided.
This is what was done in classic vanilla, but then blizzard made the idiotic decision of making it permanent in TBC. Don’t trust blizzards word. Its much safer in the long term to never have layering at all.
Wrong, I prefer to always be able to see people it makes a stronger competitive economy on top of players not hiding or abusing the invite system for layer hop. It’s just not good.
If we absolutely have to have it than I don’t see a reason to need it passed the first month of each level cap. I stand firm on that fact.
If 100k people are playing SoD on a PvP server for example, it will continue to be layered (or even while far less than that). Setting an arbitrary time point where you turn layering off was an asinine concept they tried in original classic release to force people to spread out. It failed and was a bad idea to even try it. People don’t want to spread out onto lots of servers. Most prefer to stay on a high-pop server so it doesn’t become a ghost town as people leave.
HC demonstrated the success of using minimal servers and layering instead of lots of smaller servers. If SoD is popular, layering will stay on for a long time.
again, you didn’t play Classic. You are projecting what you think the game is going to be like. We had layering in Classic and there was PLENTY of PvP on the populated PvP realms.
