Remote wow

So I’ve been remoting into my downstairs computer from the upstairs so I can do world quest and low level dungeons while I’m watching my son. During the night I just go downstairs and play normally so I can do more competitive content.

But this is a good way to get trivial crap done so I can make better use of my time downstairs.

Is there any way to speed up a remote connection? They both have a hard line ethernet cable connecting both machines. I turn my graphics down to the lowest settings. But it’s just so laggy for very obvious reasons

Any recommendations to speed this up a little bit or no? I know playing remote is far from optimal

This may sound weird, but maybe use zoom? You can control the other computer with it.

Blizzard doesn’t like you doing this, no matter how you do it, just as a heads-up. Not that you should necessarily stop, but if what I’m about to write turns out to be useless, that’s probably why. Botters use it as a way to hide from Warden, I think.

Are you using like teamviewer or citrix or something? If so, aaaaaaaaaaaaaa that’s terrifying. IF you were to do this thing, which I’ve already warned you is specifically forbidden by EULA, you’d want to use Steam Link. I’ve played Dark Souls with Steam Link, it actually works.

I’m just using the regular windows remote desktop, can I get banned for that? Is it against ToS?

It isn’t, technically speaking. But software of that nature can also be used in botting setups, so if Blizzard’s system happens to see it that way, that could be all she wrote.

I’ve never heard of anyone getting nuked for playing remotely, but it is a (relatively minor) risk as I outlined above, and it isn’t something their support group assists with, so you’re limited in that aspect.

So yeah, playing wow with windows remote desktop is a EULA violation and also it’s like 500ms of lag probably. With Steam Link you could violate the EULA at a mere 5-15ms, which is practically nothing!

I might just make a ticket ask before I do it again

They may give you a vague answer like mine that says, “Well, it MIGHT cause a problem,” but hopefully there’s more detailed information available. I don’t remember seeing a blue answer to that question in around two years, but then again I also haven’t been paying close attention to the relevant forums to have seen it.

With the multi box changes i just want to be sure because they changed the rules

Hey Zerg - did you submit a ticket about this? I was curious because I used Teamviewer once today to check my Auctions from work, and thought “Oh shoot, am I going to get banned because of Multibox changes!?” Wondering if you got a word from Support at all. Might put a ticket in as well to check…

They basically said don’t do it

" Thanks for taking the time to contact Blizzard Support. I hope you are having a great day so far. Game Master Vingenaely at your service. I was not able to talk to you today but I gladly checked your request regarding remote desktop.

We can understand you want to clarify if remove desktop is allowed or not. Unfortunately we are unable to provide a clear yes or no here given that remove desktop settings are using a similar setuo as cloud gaming services and these are not allowed according to our Terms of Use.

So in case you are unsure we would recommend you not to play via remote desktop."

I think it’s too similar to cloud gaming

OK right on, thank you! Very helpful. I’ll stay away from using anything RDP/TV like!
