Good game! A soulslike arpg game mixed with roguelite elements. This released in July 2023 last year and I hadn’t tried it until now.
Selectable difficulties from survivor up to nightmare to start, though the last is intended for those with a decent build already. Is a bit of a Diablo third person game with rpg story elements, randomized worlds and quests, tons of loot, lots of things to kill and bosses to fight, and even adventure mode and Roguelike boss rush mode!
I took my sweet time playing through this and beat it in 34 hours or so as the Handler on Veteran mode. This is basically a WoW Hunter with a dog as a pet that has 3 different assist modes to unlock. There are 4 passive perks you also unlock with every Archetype, which is Remnant 2’s name for classes. Each Archetype earns the ability to equip an additional archetype to complement it later on. In total the game has 14 unlockable Archetypes I believe with the 3 DLC and base game. Some are fairly easy to unlock while others require a bit of research as you wouldn’t normally figure out how to unlock them.
There are 5 worlds in a campaign playthrough, and if at any time you want to stop and go do another world again you can do so once you unlock Adventure mode. This new reroll of a particular world also lets you select a difficulty to try out. If you’re having a hard time at any time you can always reroll it again and try it out on a lesser difficulty.
You’re able to equip 3 weapons, clothing can’t be upgraded but can be bought, and 4 rings slots with an amulet slot as well. In addition, there are fragments that top off your build with unique stats you focus on such as hp regen, more armor %, more range damage, and more for example. There are also trait perks that come with your archetypes and also that you can earn in the game that effect anything from health, aoe damage size, life steal, increased mod time, and more. Mods are items you can earn and craft in game that add unique effects to your weapons, and mutators also complement these for each weapon allowing more build customization. Some hidden weapons have their own preinstalled, and some bosses also unlock new weapon types that can be found in the world.
All in all, Remnant 2 is a pretty cool game. Unlocking new classes alone adds new ways to replay the game. The amount of variations to 3 out of 5 worlds, DLC additions to each world, and gear that can only be found in each difficulty gives a ton of replayability. I’d suggest checking it out if you love roguelite games with a dash of soulslike, cause this is very much one in a very good looking arpg to boot. And even better it comes with the XBOX gamepass for console or PC if you don’t feel like committing to the full price.
