So why do the gems when you combine 3 it LOWERS the stats?
Had single gems socketed my haste was at 21 % had enough to combine 3, went from 21 to 5… Why combine them to get less stats?

sounds like a bug maybe
unless you went from 3 socketed gems to 1 socketed gem
in which case maybe it’s intended i dunno to not combine them until you have enough gems to fill all your sockets
Even going from three gems of one tier to just one gem of the next tier shouldn’t ever drop the stat to below a third of what it was.
Something fishy going on.
(clarification: reacting to OP’s numbers, have not encountered this myself)
Double check that you actually socketed them back in. I’ve found the gem interface pretty buggy sometimes.
Top get a stronger gem.
Narcissus has a beautiful interface for this.
So heres what i did.
had 3 ships socketed, combined those 3 to make a ++ had that and 2 chips socketed, 3rd chip dropped made a 2nd ++ so one items has 2 gems ++ and one chip, Got 2 more chips made a 3rd ++ combined them all the way to the leggo gem.
Haste went from 21% with the 3 +++ to 5 with the leggo gem.
What am i missing on using the gems?
Same here. I had 25% haste with all of my haste gems, upgraded them to a Legendary, and now I have 9% haste.
Again, Blizzard, we are not your dadgum beta testers.
Beta test what? Having fewer gems means you’re going to have fewer stats. Seems pretty simple. Don’t spend all your gems upgrading if you have literally nothing to put in those sockets yet.
And gems drop constantly, so you’ll eventually get more to replace/upgrade.
And and the stats you get from a gem also depend on the level/slot you put it in. Chest and Legs give like twice as much as the rings do, for the same ilvl. And 50% more than trinkets.
Did you actually see the amount of haste? I mean stats don’t work in percentages they have actual values.
there are no empty sockets, my haste gems 3 tier 3 were socketed, haste was at 21% combined them to make one leggo and dropped my haste to 6.32% that was the only haste gems i was using.
I dont have fewer gems, I combined them to make a stronger one. Or at least, thats how its supposed to logically go. Why would combining three gems equal less than the sum of their parts?
My add on shows me % on my stats.
Haste was at 21% took 3 gems that were in my trink and combined them to make one leggo. Socketed the leggo haste gem my haste went from 21% down to 6%.
3 tier 3 gems should give the same amount of haste once combined.
The ilvl of the gear you’re socketing the gems into matters, but yeah, currently upgraded gems are worth less than the sum of their parts so unless you have gems of the same stat to fill the empty sockets after you combine, your stats will end up dropping. In my ilvl 154 chestpiece, I get 96/144/191 mastery depending on the quality of the gem. Epic gems are worth double the value of the corresponding green gem.
Mouse over the stat in your character panel, in there you will see the actual value of haste don’t rely on percentage, it’s just number that’s based on your distribution of stats.
The stats you’re getting from socketed gems also show in the item tooltip. But yeah, if I was using my mastery gems in a gear piece, if I took three 144 mastery blue gems and combined them into an epic and had no other mastery gems to go back into the two other sockets, that item would go from providing 432 mastery to only 191. It’s a pretty significant drop to upgrade/combine gems unless you have more ready to go back into those newly-opened sockets. When upgrading gems to epic, you’ll still need at least a blue and a green as well otherwise you’ll lose stats overall.
You lose stat overall but gain an extra slot which is more stat. Going from epic to legendary the only diff is stam. So worth holding onto epics maybe if you dont have replacements.
You literally have two fewer gems if you combine three that you’re wearing into one. Jesus.
As for why it works this way? I don’t know. Presumably so that someone who gets unlucky on drops isn’t so much further behind by using ++ gems instead of +++.
If I combine something, the resulting item should be the total aggregate of the things combined. 1+1=2. This is 1+1=1.5.
Its not how it should work.
Imagine if you used Polymerization with Time Wizard and Baby Dragon, and got a Kuriboh without its affect.
You keep using that word. I do not think something something something.
Clearly the devs think it “should” work differently. Deal with it.
