I still have this image bookmarked from back in 2014. Some guy took a few minutes to edit a screenshot of the new female human face in photoshop. Every time I look at it, i'm amazed at how this person did so much better than Blizzard at keeping the original essence of the old female human face, while still designing something modern.

I know that a lot of people are still upset that the new models didn't really carry the spirit of the old characters over. In fact, a lot of them look completely different. I feel that this fan did a good job at outlining how the redesign of the face could have been done in order to keep that essence of the original game. I sincerely believe that if this format had been the end goal instead of the current live character art path they took, not as many people would have been upset over both the changes, and the eventual removal of the old model checkbox.
Yes, I realized they've tweaked the model since then to not be as gross. No, it doesn't change the point that his edit is still better.
Edit: Yes, it's just a photoshopped picture and not an actual rendered model. No, it doesn't change the fact that his edit is still better. Blizzard could easily render a model like that. They aren't a small indie company, despite the fact that they act like it half the time. (Point courtesy of Seiji for his attempt at making a stupid argument).
Edit: Yes, rendering actual 3d models is a more daunting task than editing a picture in photoshop, and no one denies that, nor did I ever say it wasn't. No, it doesn't change the fact that his edit is still better. (Point courtesy of Necrodiemos for trying to argue that designing a car engine(??) isn't the same as editing a picture of a game model in photoshop, LMAO)
hire that dude!!
It looks so artificial. The women looks like a !@#$%^- robot and for what, so they could add eye liner and lipstick?
So he changed her eyeshadow and did her hair.Big deal.
photoshopping a still image =/= "doing better at new models."
show me an actual 3d rendering and i'll be impressed.

You're clearly blind if you can't see the fact that he also:
Lowered eyebrows
Decreased actual eyeball size
Rounded the cheeks out
Widened the nose while bringing it back a bit
In addition to adding eyeshadow and increasing the volume of her hair.

I understand that you think it would be extremely difficult for Blizzard to create a passable model, seeing as how they're a small indie company and all. We should really give them the benefit of the doubt.

No, I'm saying it's easy to make something look good on a flat, 2d image. I came here expecting to see some cool fan-edit of a player model. instead i see some weak photoshop, and others holding it up as some amazing feat.
but sure, hire that guy. hire the photoshop master, and see how well he does with actual 3d modelling.

Your argument is weak and a non-issue. Smaller companies with fewer developers have created better with less.
I've seen better models created and rendered by a single person in VRchat for free. Blizzard should have had no problem with this.

then change your title to reflect what your actual argument is, because this guy isn't "doing better at character models" than blizzard.
I'd launch into a discussion about performance budgets and art direction but frankly I think it'd be rather wasted. Sunday's over, my man.
Then why not demonstrate those, instead of a weak photoshop?

They did the female humans dirty in the hair department just in general. Just compare this old hairstyle to the new... and the update of the same old model they did for the female blood elves.

Not to mention that the last hairstyle still looks just as bad as the old one, honestly. There's so much room for impovement.

No no no... blood elves need golden eyes and orcs need to stand up straight!

My responses to that nonsense would most likely be:
1. Performance budget is a non-issue.
2. The art direction for certain models was a mistake.

Because they don't represent the type of model I feel that is best for the game like this simple edit does.

Wow...the victimizing has gone as far as to relate models to small tweaks aye? ok...
No, he didn't

**Can't or won't match the model to the art style of the game**
**Somehow makes him better than Blizzard at it**

That's the thing, it's not a big deal so why couldn't Blizzard keep the eyeshadow andhairstyle when updating the model?

In what world is the edit not matching the art style of the game?
The edit literally looks closer to the original- the cheeks match better, the lipstick is corrected, the eyeshadow is there again, the shape of the eyebrows more closely matches, the shape of the hair matches more closely, etc. It's the updated model by Blizzard in the middle that doesn't match original art style.
