Remembering Ephoenix

I made a Blood Elf Mage today, and summoned my phoenix pet, and I saw that I had named it “Ezra” many years ago, in honor of Ezra Phoenix Chatterton.

For those of you who don’t know or weren’t playing back in BC, Ezra was a 12 year old boy who died of brain cancer on October 20, 2008. He would have been 26 now. He and his Dad loved playing WoW together on the Norgannon server. He toured Blizzard HQ as part of the “Make a Wish” foundation, and was gifted the very first “Ashes of Alar” mount by Blizzard.

He helped designed the quest for and voices Ahab Wheathoof in Bloodhoof Village, Mulgore. Ahab is the NPC who gives you a quest to find his dog. So when you hear Ahab, you hear Ezra’s voice.

During Lunarfest he also has an Elder named after him, Elder Ezra Wheathoof, who is a ghost Tauren Elder.

Just thought to share it with those who didn’t know.

I hope you’re having fun as a Tauren Hunter out there kiddo.

Your sarcasm is duly noted. Everyone knew Robin Williams. How could anyone be such a piece of work that takes a remembrance post about a child who died and who played the same game as they do and then to comment with such a jerklike attitude?

Holy crap, I actually remember them doing this for this kid, and that’s impressive.

“Hey, you’re reminding people of this super nice thing that I think was great that it happened! Let me be a total jerk about it for no reason other than I need some negative attention today”

I used to remember this but totally forgot. Thanks for the reminder!

Ya know I feel like I had something to say about all this but then that one guy came in here just to be a prick about it and it kinda made anything else I coulda said seem pointless.

You know I liked Robin Williams. I loved watching his movies. I liked when he guested on talk shows. But…

You can’t compare Robin Williams to a boy who died from cancer. One lost his life through no fault of his own and the other took his by choice.

Yes R. Williams from sick from depression and this helped him do what he did. But that
is a totally different thing from a young boy who died from cancer.

Both will be remembered by those who care to…in game or out.

It’s hard not to remember Ezra when you’re leveling a Tauren. Not to mention it’s a sweet story.

No point in comparing the two, honestly. Two people died due to illness.

Tragedy doesn’t need to be a competition.

That’s awesome. You did something to help honor his memory and were able to share and remind all of us about something very special.
I remember when it was added thinking how cool it was they were able to put this digital memorial in his favorite game.
I hope his family is doing well and I wonder if his Dad goes and visits from time to time.

Huh, i didn’t know about that actually. Might have to check that out at some point. Thank you for letting me know and thanks for honoring his memory.

I actually wanted this quest to be the one thing they put into Classic that was not a classic feature. A monument to a kid who didn’t get to grow up.

Nor should be.

I left WoW before TBC ended in 2007 and came back 5 years later and learned about this story while leveling up my troll rogue. I read the full story written by the father and cried my freaking eyes out. I’m an old man that never had kids but I felt every stab of pain these people went thru.

I often wonder how bad I have it with all my health issues and then I read a story like this and my problems seem trivial in comparison.

Thanks for bringing this up OP. I like to visit Ahab at least once a year and pay my respects and I think I missed it last year. I’m logging on now with my troll and taking a ride down memory lane. It always makes me feel good afterwards about the things in life I still have :slightly_smiling_face:
