Remember which game had GREAT player housing?

Runescape 2.

If you remember your OG days, whenever you start up a members quest, your first move is hopping to world 31.

I don’t know if it was RS2 or 3 then but in 2009 I I remember becoming a member for the first time getting the house, asking some friends on how to get furniture for my house and after getting the whole explanation I lazied out and never placed a single thing in that house.

The portal system to your house was really creative though.

It would be remiss to make a topic about housing in other games and not mention Wildstar, which I think had the best housing system ever made for an MMO. The kind of crazy things that system allowed (like the guy that made an AT-AT) is noteworthy.

I never had the chance to play Runescape but Star Wars Galaxies ain’t too bad. Can build whole player cities, anywhere you like.

Wildstar had the best implemented player housing. It really was a fantastic design, in addition to the drops related to it and professions.

Sadly the game design and vision pushed players away and the game died.

Star Wars Galaxies, FF14, and EQ 2 would probably be my top 3 list.

Call me old, but Ultima Online had the best player housing system. Buying a deed for various style housing, surveying the world to find a landing spot for your new home, needing to safeguard your house so people can’t come in and rob you. And if you stopped playing the house would fall apart over time and allow those scanning for homes almost ready to collapse to pick it clean (everything inside was lootable at that point) and open space for someone to build their house there.

Ultima could at times be punishing… like having your corpse looted by griefers, but I really liked their housing system. You got to design every square inch of it!

The RPG factor in that game was wild. So many good memories. :hugs:

Edit:

Oops, I forgot to mention LotRO.

Being able to decorate a hobbit hole in the shire was such a cheery type of immersion. The elven, dwarven and human homes were great too. I really liked the instanced neighborhoods and the way crafters contributed too. In fact before that game turned free to play it had one of the most amaziglng crafting systems I had ever seen. Soooo much fun that it was the only game that ever turned me altaholic…

I’m pretty damn happy with my SWTOR strongholds and flagship (houses).

Decorations are tied to professions, achievements, drops from open world, flashpoints (dungeons) and operations (raids), pvp and good ol’ swiping.

I’ve been working on decorating my 14? 15? strongholds for over a year and I’m almost done. Makes me want to have two subs in that game.

I guess Blizzard doesn’t like money or something.

Star Wars Galaxies had my favorite player housing system, that game was way ahead of its time for sure

Rest in peace =(

I can build you a house in Sims4

Meanwhile in modern RuneScape the player housing is so outdated and clunky it’s rarely used

Plus they’re too afraid to touch it cuz it’s load bearing code and could just brick the whole game

Another game with fantastic player housing is Wizard101, I’d look at other people’s monolithic mansions, wizard towers, labyrinths, whatever they built for hours when I was a kid.
Pirate101 is also ok but like in most things, it’s the lesser version of W101.

City of Heroes has its supergroup base system, which can be fun. People have made some neat things with it.

Adding another vote for Star Wars Galaxies. That game blew my mind - some people just played as traders/builders/collectors never engaging in combat.

UO was my entry into online gaming. Ahhhh the memories… I loved their housing system!

And you can’t forget Rift. Their dimensions were fun to play with - so many different options. The only bad thing is that they were instanced, where in UO I loved exploring and looking at other player’s houses.

Wildstar had the best player housing in existence. I miss that game, so so much.
