I remember the opening of the Dark Portal very well. My first character who knew little about questing and dungeons, and how gear actually worked. lol I guess we were all noobs once.

This was a great video, as is it’s follow up. The guy knows how to tell a fun story and keep the viewer entertained and it reminded me of what WoW is all about. Many like to say it’s about the World of WAR-Craft… to me it’s about the WORLD of Warcraft

When I started playing WoW I felt like I was in an intense exhausting marathon just trying to level up to 60 during Wrath. Leveling was an event back then for the rest of us that missed the initial crowd. Eventually leveling up to 70 and starting Wrath made me so mad I quit cause of how much xp you needed, and gave away an old account that I later got back before it was banned.
I’ve since become reformed and kept this account going

I agree.
For me it’s always been about the World, not necessarily anything else.
I used to think I was missing out not running dg’s and doing more group activities but I don’t think that anymore as it was never about that for me.
It’s a lovely world they’ve made for us to spend time in.
For that, I’ll always be grateful.

Leveling was a massive pain in the rump back then, and it would have been fine if it wasn’t Tedious. I miss the sense of wonder and exploration, I don’t miss the leveling process.
EDIT: Which is why when I see someone just exploring the world in videos like this and having a great time… THAT is what reminds me of the old days and what I enjoyed back then, and still do today, when new zones are released.
One thing I will always credit the devs with is they make zones feel nice to be in. There are secrets and world building all over the place if you look. I can’t say the same for FFXIV or other MMOs of the like. Where zones are big empty places with almost no personality in them.

i lost my old account as well but for different reasons.
there was no battlenet app you just logged into the game itself and i was living with my family back then. i went to college and took a big break from gaming until i finally got an apartment and the money for a computer… had to start over. the details of the old account/email were long gone from my mind.
sometimes i wonder what i had on it… probably not much… hopefully not much lol

I remember starting wow. It was the year of 2011 when cataclysm launched. A friend wanted to convince me so bad that the game was great to the point he bought me my first month of subscription and the expansion.
It was an okay experience, but time went on and Mists came out eventually. That’s where I really fell for the game and I’ve been playing off and on ever since.

2004, there I am on my first ever character. Bovinar, a Tauren Hunter. The awe I felt from running from Mulgore (it was too fricken big!!) and crossing in to the Barrens was amazing at the time. I had never played a game that had anything like the open worldness of WOW, and I was hooked. Over the years, I have taken breaks here and there, but I always seem to come back.
Thinking on it now, I realize I was 27 when I started playing this, and now I feel kinda old heh.

The first time i played WoW was when i played a human Priest and getting killed by level 1 red NCP at the front of a church 
. Running around like a chicken 
yelling " HELP ME! " My brother would say " What the hell are playing a Priest for ?"

Videos back in my day… well, something about a 50dkp minus and leeeeeroy had chicken. There was one about mages wearing dresses too.
I don’t actually watch many videos though. Thotbot was always at the ready!

I thought so too at first but I don’t think it’s that old. I wasn’t able to find a date for it, though.
I kept being distracted by my neighbours. They tore up the crack house next door, dug a huge pit and buried it.
All in about 5 hours. It looks great now.
I’m so glad that’s gone.
I lost my first account just by being too lazy to write down my email and password. I had them saved to my Firefox browser and they got lost when there was an update. I’ve tried everything to get my first account back, but had no luck. Man, that sucked!
