In stormwind if anyone can remember, we were teased two unreleased instances. One of them was that instanced closed with iron bars between the Old Town and Trade District.
There was another never released instance that looked identical to the stockades except this mini island fortress was always closed off, however if you clipped through the locked gate it looked like a giant stockades that was triple the size of the original stockades.
Eventually these teasers were removed completely from the game, does anyone remember any more closed off instances except for karazhan that were planned to be actual dungeons later?

Darkshore was supposed to have one at the bottom of the swirling lake. It was supposed to be part of BC, at least that’s what I was told at the time. I also remember when we saw the one in Longshore. We wondered if it too was going to be a part of BC.
The SW one was player housing apparently.

Mark Kern, in one if his “dev talk” Q&A streams actually talked about the massive Stockades and how everyone was wrong about it having been planned to be another dungeon.
Apparently, way back when, WoW was originally going to have story instances akin to like what GW2 eventually did and that other Stockades was going to be one of those as well as the other instanced off area being another one.
Now, whats curious about the latter one is that for the longest time it was believed that was for player housing and in fact most people know of that one as player housing.
But apparently that wasn’t the original intent, at least according to Former Lead Dev of Vanilla, Mark Kern. That confuses me though because I am pretty sure we had another source a long time ago that pointed towards the non-stockades entrance being a scrapped entrance for Player Housing… Though perhaps that had always just been speculation based on the fact that Player Housing had been planned at the start of WoW and the plan was to have instanced communities and such.
Idk, its interesting none the less. Those interested, I will link to the Q&A mark did.

Its got some interesting stuff, I do not remember exactly what stream he talked about stormwind’s instances though. Might have been that one the clips are from. Still good stuff if you like hearing things about vanilla from a former dev.
If I had to choose between Mark and Ion to be a Dungeon Master for a D&D campaign, I’d without question choose Mark.
