I vaguely remember in 2012 when Michael Bay announced that he was making a live action TMNT movie, except that the turtles are aliens. People were not happy and freaked out on social media. Afterwards, it turned out the turtles in the Bay movies are still mutants, not aliens.
Nowadays, people don’t remember that much, and if they do, they look back at something that people made a big deal out of nothing.
I am posting this because we have something similar happening right now. The Rings of Power. Like the proposed alien ninja turtles, people are having meltdowns on social media. In another 10 years, people will forget about his whole ordeal and move on to be angry about something else. People haven’t changed much to be honest.
Not to 12 day necro, but, people and fans are passionate about the things they love, considering the proverbial directors behind the proverbial chairs are making changes that makes the franchise so wildly different then what people like/love it for.
For Micheal Bay specifically, he has a track record that shows he’s more interested in his style of action and explosions (Oh and Megan Fox is in there somewhere) then genuine good storytelling, paying respect to characters and lore, and themes that aren’t mature in a way that doesn’t insult your intelligence too much (it’s actually kind of embarrassing that the kid shows are more adult in tone, story and even comedy then the live action Micheal Bay adaptions). Transformers are a pretty great examples of his track record of why people aren’t exactly hot on the idea of Bay directing TMNT.
With that said, i say this to anybody, DON’T send directors death threats for any reason. That’s never cool.
