Remember Path of the Titans

The og borrowed power System from Cataclysm Beta which was so poorly received that it never made it to live. Like wonder if BFA and Shadowlands could of actually been half decent if like in Cataclysm Blizzard actually listened too feedback and weren’t so stubborn like they’re stubborness and refusal to listen to feedback already screams doom for Evokers like so much feedback on them being more squisy then mages and still nothing :dracthyr_comfy_sip:

I remeber Path of the Titans being announced as a Wrath feature, but TBF they put a literal Path of the Titans into Dragonblight. :slightly_smiling_face:

Peppermint farms remembers.

If I remember correctly, they were talking about it like an alternate advancement system. Im not certain if it was supposed to be expansion specific or permanent like the AA system in everquest.

Been saying for a while to friends and elsewhere, blizzard’s desire to add borrowed power isn’t a new thing. They saw deficiencies during wrath development or early wrath hence why they came up with path of the titans in the first place for cata development.

That’s easily places it around 2007-2009 vs 2014/15 (likely dev time points not actual existence of said thing).

Yes because Beta is officially done and no more tuning is being done like literally as we speak.

Plus I’m actually fine with evokers being squishier than regular casters. They have absurd mobility. I see them all the time though on Beta just holding still and taking punches to the face. Like don’t whine about being squishy if you are ignoring a huge chunk of your toolkit

Lol yeah lemme just use my mobility to dodge the spell coming towards me oh wait this is a tab target game :dracthyr_lulmao:

It did in the form of the original prime glyph system and then Azerite Traits. The system actually sounded interesting— but the big issue was it being tied to archeology. And it would’ve been fine if it was long term and something easy and smooth to get. But that was part of the issue. It wasn’t. The original glyph system was pretty fun, imo.

But… different times, different teams, different generations playing games. Lots of things changed.

For those curious about it:

Not anymore.

They have spells that require to hold down buttons, channeling spells and one spell that will fly over and talented you can return to that spot. And there’s a root ability on cooldown.

I don’t remember them having a speed boost, blink, etc.

Wasn’t Path of the Titans originally a Wrath concept? I could have sworn it was, and being somewhat tied to glyphs. There’s even a sub-zone within Dragonblight called Path of the Titans, with a Watcher who was going to be a part of the interaction.

Nope, it was going to be introduced in Cata. They may have taken the idea from Wrath.

Was it poorly received? I don’t remember it ever being at all. Was it even on the alpha?

It was announced to be removed June 8, 2010. I’m not sure where that was in the timeline of Cata things.

Just cata as all the documents/images show. They sit on this stuff for years though before they decide to push forward for an apparent “need”.

Oof, it was going to be tied to archeology? Thank goodness they pulled the plug.

At least it would have given a power reason at the time while you were farming for the mounts. I just can’t care enough for that profession.

They have a speed boost that also doubles as a cast while moving button IIRC and they have it up like 1/3rd of the time. They absolutely do need to wind up their casts and make decisions even at what strength to use them.

Personally, I think they’re going to end up being a very high skill class and that is going to play a part in people thinking they are bad and/or squishy because they themselves don’t play at that level. Like I said, you can already see this on the Beta when you watch them just stand there and take a beating while making no attempts to knock enemies back and/or keep them at bay and kite yourself. Like all of that takes skill and thought to pull off.

But to be fair, I’ve only leveled 2 through their isle and only dabbled with it here and there on the Beta. I just really hope they the first draft at casting getting a total overhaul much like DKs were with tanking gaining active mitigation and a more overall active/engaged playstyle.

Skilled players have tested them and spoken about their flaws especially in Raid encounters which are designed in a way that seems to completely ignore Evoker and how they play

IIRC and its been a long time, path of the titans was not meant to be a borrowed power system. It was meant to be sort of like the heart of azeroth but something that expected beyond a single exp, kinda like glyphs.

If i recall, one of the examples they were giving was it would augment your abilities, so like for example, it would make it so rend would either tick longer, or the damage type would be nature instead of physical things like that.

I mean the dedicated tuning phase has just started and seeing a lot of the initial changes leaves me to believe that any kind of numbers anyone is seeing/feeling should be taken with many grains of salt. I mean they aren’t even taking a sledgehammer to some specs…they’re getting a straight up nuke taken to them.
