Remember? Do you?

When the Antagonist wasn’t a pre-fabbed “Old-God”
When you felt part of a real story?
When you felt unique?

There arent many of us left.

But remember the most amazing conclusion ever

Frankly, Arthas becoming the Lich King was a decent story, the Lich King as a “big bad” on the other hand was a terrible, campy, Saturday morning cartoon-esque story.

The cinematic at the end was cool though, I guess.

kidna gotta agree with the panda, while I don’t think wraths story was bad exactly, in comparison to the story of arthas becoming the lich king, wraths story was trash.

still my favorite xpac tho.

I actually only rank wrath in the middle of all expansions when ranked by quality, however the fall of the lich king was without a doubt the best final encounter of any expansion

I want what you’re smoking.

To OP: I remember. WotLK was the pinnacle of WoW and the most fun I’ve ever had playing this game. So much stuff to do and I actually had multiple reasons to login. I miss it dearly.

To be blunt, when you look at overall quality of every part of the game and not just the one part you personally think is most important, Pandaria and Legion vastly outperform Wrath.

I must have been one of the only people who LIKED how the Lich King would show up while we were questing. It actually felt like the villain was involved in the game world, not just sitting at the end of a raid waiting to drop purples.

And you gotta give it up for Halls of Reflection. The first time I ran that… man, I can still remember folks shouting “he’s getting CLOSER!!!” in Vent. I’ve been frustrated in many dungeons before and since, but that was probably the only time I felt PANIC. And it was AWESOME.

Man, this makes me miss Wrath, more than I usually do. And that is, beyond a shadow of a doubt, saying something.

Legion was the only xpac since then, that reached that loftiness, imho.

Some things never change.

I can think of multiple aspects of WotLK which were amazing:

Naxx
Death Knights
Lich King
Ulduar
ICC
Questing zones were decent and engaging.

I can keep going.

MoP had it’s moments, especially class wise.
The story overall sucked, in my opinion.
You play a panda, so I’m guessing that was a plus for you. I respectfully disagree.
Some of the raids were fun, but not as good as the ones referenced for WotLK for a number of reasons.
1.5 years of SoO? No thank you.

Legion was a close second to WotLK, I’ll give you that. I enjoyed the vast majority of the last 2/3rds of the expansion, but it doesn’t really hold the fond memories of Wrath.

Obviously we have different taste in what we want from WoW and you’re entitled to your opinion, which I respect, but disagree with.

No you aren’t. I liked that form of immersion. It honestly made you feel like you were making a difference, that you were constantly being watched by this evil that could pop up on you at a moment’s notice.
Wrath was, without a doubt, an amazing xpac. I’ve managed to find something I’ve liked/enjoyed in each of the xpacs since TBC, but without a doubt tops are Wrath/Legion for me, in that order.

Wish more people in these forums had your maturity and respect of your fellow posters. Just wanted to point that out. (My “like” quota was met a while ago and I have 10 hrs before I can “like” comments again so that’s why I pointed that out so obviously.)

I also agree with your breakdown, although I am terrible at melee classes, but will admit I have 2 dk’s I enjoy leveling each xpac, but I stop there b/c I’ve tried dungeoning/raiding with melee and I am just horrible at that class lol :persevere:

Arthas is within punching range of the player character like 8 times (honestly probably more) throughout all of Wrath. Could kill you at ANY point and doesn’t because “reasons”.

I was saying this in another thread earlier, but Blizzard has repeatedly missed opportunities for real story telling. The next expansions nemesis should be introduced NOW. Weave it into the current story, get some foreshadowing going.

You don’t feel invested at all when they just slap Deathwing or somebody into the game at expansion time. They just feel like loot bags.

That’s what was so epic about Arthas, he was a threat for years before we ever saw him. From the day the game launched you knew he was out there… doin sinister stuff… biding his time like Mr. Burns…

Pop up at a moment’s notice and do nothing. He shows up so often and just ignores you that it loses its charm in the second zone. You already know nothing is going to happen but he is going to delay your quest turn in by 2 minutes of monologuing.

The more you know, the less you love.

Effectively, learning so much about the game and world lore means it becomes increasingly well… impossible for them to surprise us, making it that much harder to bank on some mysterious looming big-bad to build hype.

While I agree he could’ve one shot us at any point, I’m of the mindset the “good” Arthas was still in there somewhere. We weren’t really on an adventure to necessarily redeem him by any means; however, if you recall … the majority of the times we did see him, he basically sicked his underlings on us. The exception being in ToC when he was the “black knight.” Even then though, it made the story all the more intriguing and interesting (for me anyway.)

/sigh
I enjoyed it.

In the boss fight he says like “I let you live so I could bring you back to life after you train” or some BS, but he could have easily just killed us and revived us in like Drak’Tharon or whenever and went from there. Its not like Death Knights are incapable of getting stronger after being brought back.

Pandaria introduced a lot of different ways to play the game that it doesn’t often get credit for:

It introduced flex raiding, giving raid access to more people than ever before.

It introduced an entire system of skill based time trials to do endgame without gear. Something that has never been done before or since. (But not mythics, oops)

It introduced the first truly dynamic area in timeless isle where you could literally play as long as you wanted

It introduced pet battles and made pet collecting a real hobby.

It was the first expansion to try something unique with hunter pet tracking.

It was the first and only expansion to build an entirely new environment and plot not built on top of the rts games and still managed to tie it into major revelations about the greater universe.

It had what I feel were the best questing zones ever made. Jade forest is my favorite zone in the game.

It revamped the talent tree into something that was easier to access for more players, yes there were fewer options, but there were more “not wrong” options

It was the first expansion to have enough time to introduce a new race and a new class at the same time.

It had the most unique and timeless visual stylization of any expansion. No pandaria model ever looks old.

It had really good music.

It had the best exploration related content ever from random treasures to cho’s storytime

I really liked the characters.

Yes, SoO went on too long, but you can’t fault the expansion for what was really WoD’s fault
