I wanted to give a holler about weather, as we are entering the peak storm season in the US. As a WoW addict, I can attest to the fact that sometimes, you will just zone out and lose track of time and the outside world…which is why I am always weather aware.
Keep your weather radios charged, and if you do not have one, get one. These things can literally save your life.
Check out the NWS and NOAA websites to be fully informed.
Never rely on just local news stations for your warnings, be proactive. Check out not just your local forecasts, but, especially if you live in Tornado Alley, your CAPE and Mesoscale discussions.
Another good tip is to watch either Max Velocity or Ryan Hall, Yall on Youtube. I am currently monitoring the storms in Texas via Max. He has good radar and several live chasers that he cycles through.
Always be weather aware. Be safe out there, and keep in mind you do not have your own Goblin Weather Machine to change your forecast!
Sorry, no. As someone whos lived in the southeast their entire life, you should only be relying upon NOAA and your local emergency agency website. The radios are no longer reliable.
… from my PC getting destroyed by it, and I can’t afford to replace it. >.<
I wish I was joking, but that’s 100% what I worry about when I hear thunder. lol To be fair, I had lightning destroy one when I was younger, so it left an impression.
I recently lost power to certain lights in certain rooms. Could not figure out what was going on. Checked all gfcis, reset breakers etc. Finally noticed my driveway camera was fried and you could see yellow and black singe like stains around its location (still unsure what happened but possible lightning as it was right after a storm). Went into attic to check and the security company had plugged it into an outlet in my attic - no protection. The plug assembly had burst open and the outlet was partly melted. Amazed the whole house didn’t burn down.
Yeah I mean I’m old and like to watch the weather but June on my first thing I do every morning is check noaas website for developing storms lol. Don’t forget to get and stabiize your gas too! Home made thaw detectors can be made by draining a bottle of water halfway and freezing it on it’s side then you place it right side up and if you see water pooled at the bottom you know you gotta throw everything out!
