with the 20th anníversary event, Blizzard is bringing back a couple of now unoptainable rewards such as the baby blizzard bear, that we received in 3.0.3 after 4 years of playing WOW.
If our lifetime achievements matter so less, then why even go for them? In the past you knew, someone with the bear is a long time player, now someon who plays for a day can have it.
Just like with T3. those milestones should not be given out to players that were not present at the time of introduction.
It makes the entire collecting of such rewards pointless, as you can bet there will be the day when you can get it years later.
What will be next, handing out Hand of Adal because you did a timewalking raid?
Seriously, I feel that Blizzard should introduce new rewards for those that are present now and not give out old rewards to people that had no buisness with WOW back then.
Oh heavens what will I do! thankfully my lifetime achievements aren’t tied to a video game. Gatekeep elsewhere, plenty of people got the T2 set well after it was considered end game content.
It’s funny how folks who rant about this stuff always make the comparison between participation awards and prestige awards, when the latter have almost never been reissued once they were retired.
There’s not really anything special about logging in for a prize. Even AoTC is more prestigious than that because you have to actually do something to obtain it.
In bringing back older rewards, Blizzard invalidates the reward for players who played back then.
They are, in essence, communicating that the best time to play WoW is later, because there’s literally no reward for putting effort into the game anymore. And it’s a middle-finger to the fans who were supporting the game way back when.
It feels like a case of “what have you done for me lately?”, when having those old rewards is one of the things that actually does feel super rewarding to show off after so many years of play.
The “smart” players will sign up 1 month before the next expansion hits with their friends, level up in a heartbeat, get free “raid ready” gear, knock down the earlier raids as tourists, use the pre-patch event to get some of the best, easiest gear of the expansion, grab your 4 piece, then go clear heroic.
If they were REALLY smart, they’d just do that after the expansion launches, so they only have to pony up the $15 for a month of play, and not even have to buy the expansion.
They did it with MoP Remix essentially giving away raid and world boss mounts for free. Did it with Twitch drops giving away TCGs for nothing. Trading post bringing back promotional mounts. Etc.
What exactly is the purpose in doing anything, then? Why run any old raid for mount drops when you can just wait for a remix of whatever expansion you’re farming? Why partake in any promotion when you can just wait until it’s given away at the trading post?
People act like no one should care, but you’re taking away the game’s integrity whenever you invalidate what was done before. Not to mention the arbitrary drawing of lines.
Why just these things? Why not bring back the old Brewfest stuff? Why not put the original epic mounts back in from classic? Where is corrupted ashbringer?
If the goal is to give people everything they want, that’s a bad goal. There’s nothing wrong with NEVER getting something. It gives you reasons to play.
It should be all or nothing, and if you’re going to go with “all,” obtaining that stuff should have a similar effort level required to the originals.
