yeah as well as ingame seriously why wasn’t this feature carried over from them to these forums? it would cut down a lot of time for CMs having to investigate every little report by someone having their feelings hurt just because they heard something they weren’t capable of handling when a simple ignore option wouldve been quicker and easier
I think you missed the entire point of my post.
To reiterate:
Reinstate “dislikes” but without the “autogrey/bury/hide” feature. Just because a post receives a lot of “dislikes” it should not be hidden or otherwise obscured from view.
No reason the # of dislikes can’t be displayed, just as the number of “likes” is displayed. The “burypost” feature needs to go.
“I disagree” is also less than 10 characters.
Nope. Just go back to the report system that had a more serious impact and better, more concise reasons for reporting.
If you dislike a topic, then use your words. With dislikes, people will just look at the numbers and decide there’s no reason to comment on a disliked topic and bury it that way.
it works for yahoo and they also have an ignore option on a per poster basis
I have a better solution.
Remove the automatic “burying” of posts.
Of course, posts can still be removed if sufficiently offensive and outside the forum rules… and if deemed so by a moderator. Otherwise, leave it alone.
Trying to automate forum moderation (even if it’s just burying the post) through the flag and dislike system more or less just gives people an excuse to be jerks.
So take out the automated result, remove the “reward” people get when they flag a post often enough that it gets buried. People are abusing the system for a “kick”… so rather than instituting another tool which gives out the “kick”, take out the “kick”.
Which is why I went to the trouble of typing all this business about context rather than waxing glib.
Disrespectful repartee is part of the reason people are so keen to ignore each other and avoid interaction especially in disagreement.
Maybe consider contributing to a better world rather than a status quo no one likes, not even you.
The same could be said about liking a topic.
Which is why I’m also for the removal of likes
Except people post their support to keep a topic towards the top of the forums when they like it.
Could it?
Agreement is basically restating the agreed upon points.
Disagreeing poses new points to consider.
No need to just restate something you agree with but if you disagree it becomes useful to understand why.
Or, just being able to “disagree” without explanation is just as valid as “agreeing” without explanation.
Sometimes, it’s unnecessary to explain oneself.
THIS.
It was always, THIS.
I just want a “Hide” option for obnoxious posters, blizzard flag system is trash. Lot of potentially fun threads get ruined usually by one or two people.
which is why I feel an ignore option is the best choice it CAN NOT be abused since the only person that knows another got ignored is the person that does it all other forum goers NEVER see that offending poster ignored or receive any notification of it unless they too choose to ignore that particular person
after all ignoring a person ingame works wonders you NEVER have to deal with them again unless you toon hop but they have an addon that takes care of that too
Global Ignore list once ignored on a single toon the addon puts their name down and it syncs across your entire acct so you don’t have to add them to each alt
You want the old “ignore” feature. So do I.
I’m afraid I’m going to have to dislike… oh snap!
Personally I think Blizz made the right choice.
But then blizzard can’t have an easy number to refer to when choosing our questions. The trust system would buckle if you don’t get enough likes!
I was not aware that this was the decided method agreed upon by the forum population.
That only works with the idea of feedback if the people measuring it actually consider said disagreement instead of skipping that and looking at how many hearts there are. It’s not balanced.
Also, the last I heard about likes is that they aren’t even supposed to be a vote of support (as of the old forums) but instead give players a tool to highlight HELPFUL posts. Like in the other sections where someone asks for advice and other players help them.
Dislike button got removed because it was being abused by players disliking posts whether it was genuine or not. Bringing it back will just make players and trolls abuse it again, so no.
Actually it was removed because of the “hiding” effect, when really all that was ever needed was to eliminate the “autoburypost” “feature.”
Displaying #s of “likes” or “dislikes” themselves would have been rather innocuous.
