Reinstalling WoW has anyone done it to fix stuff?

So I’ve been trying to get help from the tech forums, so far nothing worked to improve lag. Maybe I am just out of luck, and I am about to try backing things up and resetting my UI but has anyone just uninstalled WoW and then installed it again to start fresh?

I would take a picture of my graphic settings and stuff since I won’t remember them exactly but think it’s worth a shot if nothing else works? Or should I just wait to see if the maintenance fixes it?

I’m no expert, but I don’t think reinstalling wow would have any effect on the latency problems you’ve been having.

have the tech support forum people asked for any diagnostic information?

Lag happened after the patch, so it will go away when they fix it, its not the software

I’ve done it and it increased the loading time between zones but that’s pretty much all that I noticed.

I recently had to reset my entire PC. After I got it back up and running, I noticed some of my offline games loaded better but overall WoW was still the exact same as it was before.

Just my experience though.

Appreciate everyone who has answered, seems resetting my UI and reinstalling my settings may just be the best and then MAYBE today’s maintenance fixing it

of course yes. i have done it several times over the years. once any troubleshooting will take > 30 mins I am fully wiping things, be it OS or any individual application.

is that roughly how long WoW takes to get reinstalled with a good connection? Half an hour maybe I will see if the maintenance fixes it and if not just reinstall since I am working anyways

yeah give or take. worth seeing if maint resolves it first though

Many times. Last time because I was goofing off with registry edits

Thanks I decided since maintenance is 4 hours-ish I would just do it now and also double checking all my drivers too can’t hurt right

Alot of the lag is on blizzard’s end servers at times have randomly went offline during the weekend.

Might be your provider tbh. Addons sometimes interfere. Have you traced your internet to see if you have a lot of packet loss? Just wondering.

Yeah packet loss was under 1% which I read is ok, it’s like 0.7% my internet seems fine, or the same I should say in every other way like surfing the web, watching stuff or playing other multiplayer online games.

Random question for anyone who sees this if you are hardwired in for your PC do you leave wifi on too, I am guessing it doesn’t matter at all but I usually turn mine off for since I am plugged in.

Ya I do not even have wifi engaged. I keep it off as I am hard wired as well. hmmm I have never needed to re install the game. I have used the fix button once or twice and every patch try to remember to remove cache and WTF folders. It is a pain to re do addons but since a only use 5 or six it isn’t really an issue.

Yep I almost just went the fix route but I decided what the heck… I have backups of everything to put my addon and interface settings back so I guess we’ll see lkater this afternoon or whenever it comes up

Good luck with it friend. I know how disappointing it is to have a tech that is not living up to its potential especially when you hit a wall at trying everything to fix it.

There can definitely be a few reasons for the latency. The biggest ones that caused me issues were:
Too many people in Undermine originally
Out of date addons
Addons taking up too much memory (some of them have memory leaks that can cause performance issues)

I am still getting some errors on a few of my characters(not all) related to my addons folder since I deleted a lot of addons, but just by making sure they were up-to-date and removing or replacing some with more light weight ones I have been doing a lot better.

I would go so far as to say I can drive the car in Undermine okayish now lol…

Yeah I tried it with all addons off, I also deleted a lot altogether last night. I am making sure I don’t have any leaks from old or inefficent weakauras too as I think that happens sometimes.

I actually avoided the new areas, I stuck in town, darkmoon faire and even old dungeons like Blood furnace and I was still getting that high latency.

Who knows maybe maintenance fixes it, maybe updating my drivers will help, maybe a reinstall helps maybe I just have to accept I am not playing if it still stinks tonight.

I would try moving your mod folder. the wtf folder, and the cache folder to the desktop first. You could also try running the repair tool from the launcher.
