So as of this afternoon, Blizz’s baseline nameplates are completely broken.
Only shows the nameplate for your current target, nothing for any other mobs around you.
I’ve disabled all addons and done a full game reload to be sure. Completely busted.
Naturally this makes M+ basically unplayable. Get it fixed ASAP.
This is my reward for having never downloaded plater, I guess.

It isn’t. Bug Reports is where the devs make their lists of bugs.
Thanks for trying to help. I’ve been using Blizz’s nameplates since I started running M+ back in Shadowlands. This isn’t an issue of a wrong setting. The nameplates are broken. No combination of setting changes results in anything other than your primary target nameplate showing. No other surrounding mobs have theirs pop up.
If a moderator sees this and deems it should be moved there, at least there’s some degree of acknowledgement. Considering there’s 2-3 year old complaints still being rebumped, Bug Report seems to have turned into the backburnered issues where complaints go to die forum.
It is going to be something on your end. This is a screenshot I just took after disabling Platynator. https://imgur.com/a/eRGKQmx
Try backing up and deleting the WTF, Cache and Interface folders in your install directory. Also make sure the indicated setting is indeed checked. Just to be sure.

Full folder removal. No Addons. WTF cleared. Cache cleared. No nameplates aside from primary target.

Go ahead and try installing Platynator for me, just so we see the behavior it causes. https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/platynator

Try resetting to default and back see if that works.
I am so sorry for what you are going through. This is what I was trying to warn about in a diff thread about how no one will be laughing when forced to use the Blizz UI. I have played beta since Day 1, I know how terrible things will be very soon.
Again, I am sorry about this for you.

Mods don’t actively moderate. They only look at flagged posts.
If you don’t want your problem fixed, that’s on you. We’re just giving you information as to how bugs are seen.
Triage. They don’t have an endless staff. So they triage. It’s a priority list.
My transmog issue of something wildly clipping is going on the back burner for people who can’t finish a quest, have broke UIs, etc.

Okay so installing Platynator, logging in with it, then subsequently disabling it appears to have woken something back up. Regular plates working as usual, aside from only 1 nameplate showing up when you aggro 2 mobs of the same name.
Thanks for the recommendation. I’ve subsequently uninstalled Platynator and it seems to be stable, aside from the same-name mob issue.
I want to make it clear, I don’t use any UI addons. I have never used a nameplate addon. I don’t use CD trackers. I use base UI for as much as possible. Whatever broke here was on the back end.

There are a few nameplate addons currently being tested for Midnight.
Indeed very odd behavior.
To be clear, did you delete WTF, Cache and Interface folders fully? Not just what was in them, but a full deletion. Such a thing would cause your next boot to start the Cinematic and reset most settings.

Base UI nameplates working just fine
Options → Interface → Always Show Nameplates
Base keybind is “V”
Interesting.
Thats all I can think of, at least we got it that far. Sorry, mate.

Thanks but that was never the issue.
Well the issue is your side - everyone else using base ui nameplates are having no issues.
Can you take a screenshot of the issue as well as the screenshot of your nameplates settings
