Chances are, by now, some of you, like me, when we first saw there was gonna be a 2nd murloc mount, like me, you were praying to whichever WoW deity of your main’s race, that it wouldn’t be gated by a 12 month sub, and were pretty p.o.'ed when the recent leak in Wowhead hinted at it actually being like the 1st murloc mount, and being gated behind a 12 month sub. And if you’re like me, who can’t simply fork over $120.00 for a sub, due to real-life priorities like bills, rent, etc. Here’s a suggestion, for the big-wigs at Blizzard that might still prove profitable, maybe for those who just want the mounts that the 12-month-sub deals include, you could give your loyal, paying players the option to just buy the mounts, individually, or in mount packs, it’s a win-win! Blizzard gets more ways of making money, and players have the opportunity, if they wish, to buy really cool-looking mounts to increase their mount collections! You can’t lose!
Naaah, you’re on your own on this one.
Milking what is left of the dying cow
Who cares
this was the Wowhead article:
I saw it, this is “meh” at best. I’ll grab my pitchfork for something else but not this. If they increase the cooldown of all toys, count me in, I’ll right there with you. But not this.
Would be cool if they made the unique murloc mount obtainable through some cool in game challenge. We pay a sub afterall. But i guess they can only make more reskinned catch up gear world events for no reason.
Well, like me, I think it’s just a plus one so like me I really don’t care that much but if you’re like me then you’ll be happy it makes your stable grow.
Like me.
I think there’s far more problems in the game to worry about. My guess is we are about to enter a year long stretch of a content drought waiting for a new xpac and they are trying to lock players into that 12 months knowing that subs are inevitably going to plummet over the course of the next 12 months as people get bored waiting for the new xpac.
Can’t fault them for making a logical decision as a business. If you’re a player with enough FOMO issues that it upsets you, you’re part of the reason as to why they use these tactics.
These people who try to obtain every possible mount/transmog/toy etc are just setting themselves up for failure. You’re either going to go broke trying to keep up with all shop items, throwing away money… or you have the money to do so, but are further enabling blizzard to push more and more of these “deals” out continuing spiral further into greed.
Personally, I will never buy one of these subscription promos, because all it’s telling me is they know a lack of content is coming and want to lock players in. Personally, I get like 12 weeks of enjoyment out of a patch, so I a 3 month sub at the start of a tier, and if I’m no longer having fun after the 3 months it’s cancelled until the next tier of content.
If there’s content, I’ll stay subbed, if there’s not, I’m gone onto other games. If only everyone had that same mentality, none of the issues most of you complain about would exist
It’s a mini wall of text.
personally, i was suggesting giving players the option to buy the mounts without the sub
That’s not how the promotion works.
I haven’t felt locked in at all doing the 12 month.
In fact it opened up being able to do alot more of what I wanted to do with other things than having to fussing with buying a token or paying the sub fee.
Sure I’ve taken a few days away and here there but all in all it’s been worth it to me to not have to worry month to month and then have to cancel something else out .
I still managed to pay for it even with an income of less than $400 a month non taxable income so for me it was a win.
If they do that, people would just simply buy the mount and the whole point they are trying to accomplish with locking in subs for a period of time doesn’t happen.
They do these “deals” for no other reason than to keep their sub numbers high during content droughts, knowing that subs will plummet when players get bored. The mount is nothing more than the tool used to accomplish this.
Even if they make it so it comes on the store a month after this promo as a separate purchase, it would only be a matter of time until everyone knows “I’ll just sub for 1 month and buy the mount later”
This almost confirms 10.2 will be the last major content patch of Dragonflight and we are at least a year out from the next xpac
While I agree that 10.2 will be the last major patch…I’m confused how you are connecting the 1-year sub to it. This is the 2nd one-year sub deal, and the first was at the beginning of DF when there definitely wasn’t a content drought. I think 1 out of 2 might be a bit early to say that there is a correlation.
If anything, the correlation is that the last 1-year sub deal is going to run out next month, so they are making another to replace it.
Pretty perfect timing for that to happen isn’t it? Time to do the 12 month resub just in time for a year long content drought while waiting on the new xpac. Blizz is a lot smarter at making money than a lot of people give them credit for
Yeah. Making the next 1-year sub available right as the last one expires is a brilliant business move, lol. I think you are reading too much into this.
It’s not reading too much into it lol. It’s being aware of how blizzard as a company manipulates its playerbase to get as much money as they can. You don’t think blizzard knew at the launch of Dragonflight the projected dates of their content structure and the next xpac timeframe? To then release 12 month sub packages that line up perfectly in time for blizzcon, potential xpac announcement, and final major content patch of Dragonflight where hype is going to be high?
Personally I don’t care for mounts and cosmetics so it has no affect on me, but to underestimate this being a calculated move is ignorant
Nevermind that lol I just realised it was November when it came out but got mine in January before it ended lol
Do people actually buy 12 month subs?
I’d be surprised if it’s true, seeing as how they’ve never done a recolor for a sub mount and it’s not an incentive to get the yearly sub then.
- Open a savings account with a good interest rate.
- Put $15 a month into savings account.
- Pay for 6 or 12 month sub from said savings account.
- Earn interest from said savings account as a bonus.
I’m sure those mounts will eventually end up in the shop or Trading Post or both.
