I see this happening quite a lot. 2-5 characters. All the same class. Nearly identical gear on all of them. All go to the trainer at the same time. All move as one. All target and attack the same mob, at the same time.
The rules listed for “Hardcore” repeatedly mention that the changes (from normal game rules) are in a certain spirit. That this is meant to be a special challenge. So, things needed to be altered to fit that challenge.
So, why is multiboxing allowed? Having 4 bots follow you around is a HUGE advantage. More importantly, it removes all difficulty.
Even if one dies, you have 4 identical backups. The whole idea of HC is that it’s over when you die. Multiboxing circumvents this. Plus, your team can just power-level a new character back up to where you need them to be. In a shorter time than it would take anyone else to restart.
It’s totally unfair in HC. It should not be allowed.
If they’re actually casting at the same time and doing things in unison they’re probably using broadcasting software and are risking a ban. Blizzard used to allow this, but about a year ago they banned people from using it which makes complex multiboxing with >2 characters pretty much unfeasible.
But running two accounts simultaneously, putting one character on follow, and micromanaging two characters at once using two screens/alt-tab/etc. with independent key presses for each character isn’t against the ToS. There are people that do this with, for example, a healer and warrior character and it’s fine. It’s actually much harder to pull off than just playing one character, and rather annoying because one has to collect 2x quest items, micromanage turning in quests and professions for both characters, etc.
So, what? It’s no different than having an alt. Except that you get to play both at once. I shouldn’t have to pay an extra $15/month to have the same advantage.
Hardcore has nothing to do with 2 toons at once. You’re just lashing out because you want to, it isn’t a valid issue to be upset about. One person playing two toons is not an advantage and, as people have been quite clear about, it is really a disadvantage as it takes longer to finish quests where looting is required, you must bounce from window to window to use abilities for each toon, and you must be extra aware of surroundings because you now have two lives to protect.
Further, you seem to be equating multiboxing with botting and they are not the same. That said, someone running multiple toons within the rules Blizzard has set, meaning no mirroring/botting, is not harming you in the slightest so wtf?
It is not allowed. I saw a guy doing it in HC. I whispered to him and said it was banned… He claimed he didn’t know that…that’s what they all say. Then I saw him wipe all his toons, the 4 of them, later on.
So many other MMOs allow it. Mostly just WoW that is so against it. WoW population is full of a bunch of jealous underachievers. Hardware and Software broadcasting is not banned in WoW.
Here’s the thing. Multiboxing was huge back in the day. There was even a dude that had enough characters and accounts to multibox raids by himself, in the days of 40 man raids. It is one of the iconic parts of how wow use to be.
Broadcasting is banned in WoW, as of about a year ago.
Playing two accounts with independent key presses is not.
“Multiboxing, or playing multiple World of Warcraft accounts at once, is not a violation of our End User License Agreement. Please note, however, that use of all software or hardware mechanisms used to mirror commands to multiple World of Warcraft accounts at the same time, or to automate or streamline multiboxing in any way may result in account penalties.”
Why do you go out of your way to follow me to every forum topic just to try and troll me. Stop stalking me. Get a life and leave me alone. I do not like you one single bit. Yu are worthless, no one likes you. You keep getting guild kicked, you are lucky you have been in that guild so long. I didnt make it up. I used to multibox. Blizz ruined it by banning software and hardware broadcasting. If they still allowed it, i would be doing it right now. Dont ask me to post on the MB toons of mine. You kept spamming the forums then I posted on it…you didnt even reply to me when I tried to talk to you on it. I offer to show you what I am talking about with the layering in HC, you reject seeing it after saying I was making it up you and Koki both. They should put either battletags or better yet real ID for our real life names here on the forums. We’ll see how fast this trolling crap of your stops then.
And you cannot key broadcast which is what multiboxing is all about. So yes, it is banned. All you can do is have multiple windows open at once and then you have to move one at a time with different mouse and key commands for each. Glinda hates multiboxing? Yea all jealous people who cant afford it do.
Oh, that’s so sneaky and devious and terrible. Surely nobody on the forums would dare play Character-A with Character-B simultaneously /follow-ing along.
Same reason you’re allowed to feed gold, enchants, bring a 60 along, etc. If you want to destroy the innate challenge HC is supposed to have…go for it I guess. It’s like beating the game with cheats activated.
That being said…
This would require some sort of software or hardware setup; both of which have been banned. You see any group acting in perfect unison like this you should report them.
People tend to fail to discuss the nuances on this topic, but MB is simply running more than one WoW client at a time. Historically that had involved software to replicate keystrokes between clients, but as of late BFA they banned software and then later banned hardware as people started going that route.
So what you saw was actually not allowed, and again, feel free to report them for the use of MB software and/or hardware.
