Reduced dragon riding speed in old world content

Which is why they hide behind a classic 55 dk.

I was doing the gilneas quest line and the game was struggling to load everything quick enough. Think the maps are just too small to work with dragonflying properly. 80% of the time I was just looking at green texture while flying at max speed

Think blizz said portals made the game feel too small not players.

This must be a computer issue for you then.

I spam “surge forward” when flying in the old world on dragon riding mounts, so I go considerably faster than you would be and this isn’t an issue whatsoever for me.

I do have a rather recently purchased computer with a nvidia 4090 though, maybe you should upgrade your comp?

Blizzard has expressly stated (within the thread) that the reduction in dragon riding speed has nothing to do with technical limitations and was purely a design choice.

See?

Okay cool

I’ve read multiple threads where people did complain that this doesn’t feel like a “world” anymore but a series of instances. Between queues for dungeons porting you, portals around the world, and a lack of reason to go into old content I’ve seen multiple instances of people complaining that the world didn’t feel immersive anymore.

no im being honest and real. These problems that people are complaining about aren’t new, they are just different and people are still defending it. You can look no further than this thread.

Second, i never said anyone was “happy” about it but are indifferent to it and dont care.

Thank you for proving my point. Blizzard even came out and said that isnt the reason but you are still running to their defense. They wanted you to travel slower in the old world because they wanted you to travel slower in the new world. 15% cut to speed isnt addressing any of the points you made, its a 15% cut to speed.

what are you waffling about, i am more than willing to bet you didnt actually calc this.

So yea enjoy your crap sandwich i mean its only 15% amirite?

Dragon riding is garbage

In my opinion, there is a solution for this.

There are people who have complained that always having to fly tilted downwards is something stupid. Indeed, it can be quite annoying at times.

So, dragons could have a sort of “gear system” like manual cars.

First, second, third, and fourth gear would ensure 310/420/530/640% speed without the need to fly tilted downwards… We could choose which “gear” to stay in, and to fly, for example, at 800%, then we would increase to fifth gear and would have to maintain the downward tilt to keep it.

This would solve 3 problems: the tilt, small spaces where we can’t fly too fast, and open spaces where we can fly as fast as possible.

It’s old world content. Honestly most of us are farming mounts, mogs, raids or old world bosses. Weve seen the continents for 20 years almost.

We just want to get where we wre going faster and have more fun.

-15% is not more fun It’s less fun. For something that has literally no impact on game balance.

It actually border line frustrates me using DR in old zones because i can actually feel tge throttle and it just makes me resent it more.

exactly, this is how everyone feels about travel in the old world.

i agree. faster = more fun. we should be able to fly at 20,000% speed. that would be more fun. it’s simple math.

Blizzard can’t have that now can they.

the fast speed of flying is not the fun part…

the fun part is simply getting to your destination quicker so that you can have fun at that destination, whether it be a raid or a mythic plus dungeon or an old raid to farm a mount/transmog.

the annoying part of slower flight speeds is that you spend more time travelling instead of playing the game.

Maybe I’m misreading what you’re saying here, but they did say that was indeed the reason why.

right, so we agree. 20,000% flight speed = get to your destination faster = more fun. basic math. nobody can argue.

getting to the destination faster will always equate to a larger amount of time that is enjoyed by the player in the world of warcraft.

more travelling = more busywork = more burnout = more lost subs

yep, we’re on the same page here! 20,000% flight speed or bust!

I did some testing earlier and it takes 5 1/2 minutes to fly from the Ghostland Portal to Booty Bay. And just under seven to fly from the very northern most tip of Kalimdor just north of Winterspring to get to Throne of the Four Winds.

I did it far from optimally so there’s definitely time to shave off their, but it’s plenty fast.

I’m loving Dragon Riding in the Old world. it’s FANTASTIC. Very glad to see it outside of the Dragon Isles.
