Yeah Twitter was fine for its first few years, but in the past several years, and especially when Musk took over, it went from a minor cesspool into a huge one. For a social media website, you really don’t make friends there and only post the most outrageous things since you are anonymous, or you are not in proximity to be ganged up on for retribution. Facebook at least allows you to reconnect with old friends, Twitter doesn’t have that.
And Reddit, oh boy, don’t get me started. In the past few years, Reddit went from an ok site with some issues into a radicalization hotbed. The mods have too much power, and some of the most frequent subs are just political and social echo chambers. Not to mention, there is a lot of… explicit stuff that makes the site safe for creeps to watch without getting their computer hacked by viruses. It is like 4chan but a bit more PG-13. But frankly, just like 4chan, it should be shut down with the illegal stuff that actually breaks US government laws about child protection online. A lot of creeps flock there for a reason.
A website that is a safe way of watching obscene material without getting in trouble with the law or getting viruses should get its plug pulled. And for Twitter, since it contributes to nothing, it should cease to exist.
Then you shouldn’t speak on things you’ve “just heard”.
I’ve been on Bluesky, it’s not anywhere near what Twiiter/X and Reddit are. I’d say that even Reddit isn’t that bad, depending on which part of it you’re in.
More than likely, you’ve “heard” Bluesky is “bad” because right-wing media likes to push false narratives about things they don’t like. Some Twitter rejects tried to jump in and foul things up, but the moderators cleaned it up quickly. However, whether or not it remains that way for the long run has yet to be seen.
I think I will speak on whatever I want. I am not claiming what I heard as fact. Other wise I wouldn’t say “I heard.” If you don’t want to listen you’re free to move along.
This. Simply removing them will cause another to pop up. You’re cheering for the Disney Hercules (even though his name is really Heracles) to keep chopping the head off the hydra.
This debate reminded me of the napster debates and I felt a hair turn grey.
Twitter used to be SO great. Like the actual funny and witty people would be pushed to the top of comment sections. But now, you just need to buy a blue check and you get to cut the line to say whatever dumb, moronic, nonsensical thing you can and you’ll be the top reply. It’s an absolute garbage site now since Elon (the first lady) has taken office.
