Is this bugged? If you are trying to recraft any piece of gears, profession or gears when it is a lower quality to a higher quality, it is like impossible. I crafted my profession tool when I had a few points and got R3 but I am now fully speced into that profession skill yet the recrafting still has it at R3. I checked Craftsims and mats quality does not matter at all. I also tried recrafting someone’s gear that they have at R3 to be R5, this is also nearly impossible. However, I can craft that item at R5 guaranteed if it is a brand new order, not a recrafting order.
From what I understand, when the new prof system launched in DF, the mats used in the initial craft play a part in how easily you can recraft. If you used low quality mats initially, it will take several recrafts with R3 mats to override them. I found this post that explains it a bit better.
