Reconsidering the Ban on GDKPs in Classic WoW

I’d like to pug GDKPs and not bid on stuff and make a lot of gold. What do you think my chances of finding this playstyle is?

Im pro gdkp but yall need to stop lmfao.

If you’re okay with skipping loot and just stacking gold, your chances aren’t too bad—especially in groups that run consistently and value reliable players. A lot of GDKPs are happy to have people fill spots and contribute, even if they’re not bidding. Just be upfront about your intentions when joining; some groups might pass, but others will welcome you if you pull your weight. Worth a shot!

It turns out what matters the most when it comes to loot is bosses dying.

Ive talked about it before but some guy did an experiment years back in OG Wrath using multiple 25 and 10 man raids for his college thesis and found out that it literally didn’t matter what loot system you used or no loot system at. Every raid geared out at the same rate. What mattered was similar attendance and dead bosses.

Haha, can’t stop now—I’m out here fighting the good fight for GDKPs, one debate at a time. Someone’s gotta do it!

Pugs can offer that to you as well but it seems you’re favoring GDKPs for other, more specific reasons.

It respects gold. Your playstyle is less of a concern assuming it even is one.

Sounds like you just don’t want to play fair with a team tbh.

The compromise between enjoying the game and RL is, aw shucks Im never going to get higher than R12, guess I should be happy with R12.

That’s exactly why GDKP works so well for players like me who can’t stick to a fixed schedule. The need for “similar attendance” just isn’t something I can commit to, but GDKP lets me participate, contribute, and still progress. It’s a system that respects flexibility while rewarding effort, which makes it a perfect fit for my playstyle.

I mean, I can’t disagree. Raiding as a buyer with deep pockets is easier and more convenient than committing to a raid guild.

This was my experience as a new player to classic. I never played anything pre-Cata until the official release in 2019.

On release I was super hyped and had tons of fun leveling on a pvp server as a druid. But I started to get a bit burned out around 40 so it took a while to get to 60 and by then I needed a break.

When I started playing again I really didn’t have any interest in doing end game stuff at the time so I just started playing around with a few alts. I did this off an on until classic became era. I had multiple different alts on multiple servers and would just chill and and see how the population in each server was doing and what everyone was up to while I leveled. This was when era was “dead”.

Eventually classic was popping off again and I finally dusted off my original character and started doing dungeons to get gear and get back into the swing of things. I was excited to try raiding in classic for the first time ever. But I had no interest in GDKPs. I don’t want to pay people to carry me. I wanted to progress “normally”. But that option was long gone unfortunately.

For a few days I was looking for a guild to be a dedicated raider with, and I only ever got two responses. One was something along the lines of “Sorry man but druids aren’t really desirable these days, there are plenty of geared warriors to tank and geared shaman to heal. You should try to join a GDKP as a feral buyer.” The other was someone trying to explain how I could essentially lie my way into GDKPs since they wouldn’t take me if I didn’t have enough gold. Because these ‘inclusive’ GDKPs don’t want noobs with no gold. Why would they?

Anyways, I’m someone who can struggle to commit long-term, and even then I would rather find the time to raid with a guild than pay people to carry me and give me gear. Would guilds actually progress through raids “normally” if there were no GDKPs on era? I don’t know, but as it stood what I wanted couldn’t be found on era. So I’m in fresh now.

Again, it’s as simple as I don’t want to pay people to carry me. I don’t want to see loot simply going to the highest bidder every time. I just don’t like how transactional it feels. Either I want to play or I don’t. I don’t want to be paid to play. Or pay others to play with me.

That big cut of gold you get comes from gold buyers. You know that. You’re fairly well spoken, but all these posts are just words in the wind. It’s an elaborate excuse to justify getting gold from swipers.

No, you can just sit there and seethe and cope and mald.

You aren’t getting GDKPs.

Dear Blizzard,

Banning GDKP was probably the best decision you took after release of classic.

Thanks

There are only 3 types of ppl who advocate for GDKP:

1- Gold sellers
2- Gold buyers
3- Greedy people who don’t care about 1 or 2

Which group are you in ?

Terrible player spotted.

Hey there’s this crazy thing Blizz can do called BANNING GOLD BUYERS. Have you ever heard of it? It’s called BANNING GOLD BUYERS.

Don’t care, ban the swipers. Not our problem. Now anyone and everyone swipes because banning GDKP is a tacit admission they would never ban gold buyers under any circumstance.

You forgot group 4. Everyone with a geared toon that can parse.

Carries do not attend pugs unless it is GDKP, enjoy your 3h BWLs pugs

Also because they ban the best way for raiders to farm gold.

I’m not mad about gdkp ban, I just enjoy ponting out how ridiculous it is.

The no ranking though, I am still mad about.

Weird you sound mad about it then.
