I remember that when Modgud used the blade of Xal’atath, The city became cursed by “living shadows” that the Wildhammers venture north to make a new home.
During the Second war, the Orcish Horde have claimed the fortress and used it as the means to not only use as a base, but also a prison to Alexstrasza. In the aftermath of the war, the Horde was defeated and the red dragon freed.
In the Cataclysm, The Twilight’s Hammer took over city, fighting off the Red Dragon aspects. Then they were defeated with the Dragonmaw ruling until their warlord, Zaela, was slain.
With the City no longer “occupied” except for remnants of Troggs and waring faction; The curse, and the bitter memory of the War of the Three hammers, is the city lost for good, or is there a chance for the three clans to reclaim it?
Might not be a great idea to just assume the place can easily be reclaimed. One of the item drop quest turn-ins from the BfA’s Island Expeditions revealed that the troggs there kept digging since Cataclysm, and have managed to unearth a massive cache of hidden Twilight Dragon eggs.
With how much time has passed since even just BfA (especially with the additional time between Shadowlands and Dragonblight), it wouldn’t surprise me if they’ve started to hatch, and if so, it really wouldn’t surprise me if they’ve already been noticed by a certain former knife and figure into her agenda somewhere along the way before Midnight ends. Picking up leftover tools of the Old Gods and repurposing them for her own ends seems to be one of Xal’atath’s favored strategies, after all. They didn’t factor into the “big dragon expansion,” so the may well play a part in the “big void expansion” instead.
I’d rather see we bury it considering how cursed the place it. The Wildhammer dont seem to particularly care for it and honestly they would be better off trying to reclaim/fix more of their Twilight Highlands holding.
Iirc those eggs hatched during BFA. Mainly patch 8.2 during the cruicble of flame quest. Vexiona rallied them only to serve as a means to an end to lure out Alexstrasza and Kalecgos. Any survivors were then experimented on in Blackwing Descent. Many of whom were fed to Shad’har’s spawn and those that succeeded were turned into Void Dragons. Some of which we save (AotC N’zoth mount). Although the Brood of Sinestra mount from Cata Timewasting seems to indicate that some managed to resist Vexiona’s call and would later side with us.
I think for the most part Blizzard is done with the Twilight Dragonflight. That is until they bring back Goriona. Cause why else would they mention that she is still MIA in the Dragonflight Codex if they have no plans for her? That being said, it is possible that there are more hidden further in Grim Batols depths. Or in other, hidden locations within the Bastion of Twilight.
I believe most of the items from Island Expeditions were meant to foreshadow certain things that would happen later in BFA. While others would serve as means to set things up later on. Such as the still living Nerubians we encounter on one of the Islands. Showing that there were other Nerubians outside of Northrend. Such as a certain Nerubian Kingdom we learned about in this very expansion.
I don’t know if that was intended or a typo, but I chuckled nonetheless.
I was excited about the Bloodwake maybe being some big threat we could face one day… they have been in the back of my mind as one of those loose ends from the Island Expeditions.
They are at Siren’s Isle, so at least they weren’t forgotten.
I always have thought it was a bit of a missed opportunity not to bring the twilights into the fold in DF. They almost went out of their way not to, given they took the time to drag the Netherwing from Outland instead.
It honestly be pretty neat to see the Dracthyr and Twilight Flight sort of build up something out of the Reach given how much they have in common.
