Recent Spike in Toxicity (In-Game, Not Just in the Forums, Lol)

Its not gaslighting as its personal experience. I raid mythic raid with my guild, the same people I have done so for years now and we are all friends and get along well. So I encounter 0 toxicity in the game. So to me it doesn’t exist.

gestures to our stupid US news
Its mostly that honestly

It’s because these people don’t actually enjoy raids or mythics. They just want the reward.
For that, they endure the game. When things don’t go right, they suffer longer and that makes them angry.

Oh you poor sweet summer child. Let me take you back to a time of ultima online, everquest and my personal favourite rust experimental. Those were and still are the peak of toxicity that will never be matched. Good times, funny times.

I think its just a cultural shift myself… the fad of being offended by everything is slowly letting up. That doesn’t mean we will go back to old Internet just that something new is forming

wouldn’t be affected by rhetoric. since letting emotions run you, is considered, not “smart”

I think it’s a reflection of society overall where people are kind of unhappy IRL and they’re used to taking it out on others in game because there aren’t any real consequences. That whole anonymity thing.

It’s def worse. Even other parts of the internet, it’s not just a WoW thing. But I can’t really speak for RL cause I don’t really interact with a lot of people thank god.

To a certain extent we all have our breaking points. It’s a spectrum of how much people can take and how much they’ve already taken by the time they get to your group.

And there’s a minority of people that can’t handle criticism or failure well and their breaking point is low and their response is bad. They do things like blame everyone else, etc etc.

And one thing that’s very clear…

This rarely shows up when runs are going well.

Right now, more runs than normal don’t go that well.

Every season it’s the low to mid range keys where you mostly see poor behavior. Higher end keys are usually more vetted, and surprisingly a lot more chill and understanding. Especially if you throw a “my bad” in when you do make a mistake.

Are these gaslighters in the room with us right now?

this happened when doing horsemen halloween

I came in as a 73 VDH, jump from the starting point to the pumpkin head just like a gogogo VDH you normally see

except i waited for the healer who walked slowly instead of mounting

no problem, sure.

As we started the horseman fight, the healer stopped healing me. i died, then the group wiped

The healer just left the party in a supposedly easy fight

I would like to think maybe healer has irl urgency, but cant stop wondering if my jumping actually messed up with the overall friendliness

What was the toxicity? That they left?

I can help u but I need $$$$$$

I think the rush to be the best mentality is doing that to a lot of people. I came back after not playing much in DF or at all during SL, and took my time gearing and getting sharper on mechanics in Delves the first 2 or 3 weeks, I soloed like my first 105 Delves the vast majority 8’s and up, cleared lfr on a couple toons, watched the raid fights, then got Norm Palace on farm and found a guild to progress through Heroic and I’m just starting to push io. I see people who went right to pushing keys in full blues seemingly burnt out and quitting already.

Careful, don’t get too serious about politics here, you’ll upset one political camp or another and get your comment removed because they flag it as trolling.

Combination of ingame reasons to get angry ,( bad players, bad design) and real world situations.

Right now people in general are just angry but those who tend to be the most vocal about it are especially so.

Unfortunately, the younger and newer the players, the more you end up with non-socialized humans who were handed smart phones and ipads as a digital babysitter. Then, bring on Covid that made more people VERY social because online was the only way to socialize. Sadly, the world is devolving again, and now in the height of the political climate, people are just used to fighting. Some of us are still pretty chill.

Every key I do at the +3 level gets a 590 tank invited to it. The tank gets 1 shot on the first trash pack then I leave.

I dunno what to say. People are so desperate for a tank they will literally invite garbage.

I keep getting tanks that can’t hold aggro also. All the DPS will die to auto swings and then the tank is just acting like nothing is their fault, as they are getting 1 tapped the entire time and if I stop healing them for one global the entire group almost wipes and these tanks still see nothing wrong.

And people wonder why delves are a thing. I haven’t run a single delve with anyone but myself, it’s that bad.

Blizz just finally recognised the state of the playerbase as it was back in BfA. Took em a few years.

I was actually thinking a lot of this is due to Gen Z and its unique issues. Some Gen Z are pretty cool, but as a group I feel like they tend towards alienation and posturing.
