Westfall residents were exploited by the aristocracy of Stormwind, led by Onyxia posing as Lady Prestor.
The people of Westfall who tried to revolt against their exploitation were murdered by the player characters.
Then, the Cataclysm decimated the farms and countryside of Westfall… but that wasn’t the end. Refugees from around Stormwind were sent to Westfall, where they lived in tent cities, eating gruel and weathering the elements.
Once again, the people of Westfall tried to revolt against Stormwind, and the player character murdered them for their efforts… again.
Now, after the fourth war, many of those residents were likely drafted and died fighting in a country they either didn’t know about or who had left the alliance after the second war.
There needs to be Firelands Warfront style quest-based progression rebuilding of Westfall, where the player characters do quests to help repair and rebuild Westfall. These should include but not be limited to; quelling the elementals, sealing elemental rifts, killing gnolls, bringing food to citizens, collecting wood to rebuild the town structures, killing vultures and boars to help stock the inn with food, etc.
After you’ve rebuilt Westfall (because remember, this is partly your fault), a scenario quest or dungeon opens up called “Reclaiming the Deadmines” you and the towns folk clear out the undead miners, clear out the ghosts of the Westfall citizens YOU murdered, and reclaim the shipyard from pirates who have taken the docks after you defeated the defias in cata. Kultirans end up helping Westfall turn the shipyard into a functioning port again. The dwarves and gnomes help get the mining operation started again. The economy of Westfall comes back and new shops appear in the town center.
That’s not how things happened with Westfall, but I agree that building up Westfall (And plenty of other zones for different races.), would be really cool to see and do.
I don’t think it fits in Shadowlands, but I would love it in future expansions if in the .5 patches, things like this are added so max level players have reasons to return to older zones.
It was the people of Westfall that had us deal with the brotherhood who were just ruthless bandits at that point and hated by everyone. I think you are mixing up the people of Westfall with the stonemasons guild. They were not even originally from Stormwind from what information I can find and only came to rebuild the city and improve their lives before the nobles under the influence of Onyxia screwed them.
They then started riots and while Tiffin (The Queen) who supported them tried to calm them down (Varian was probably going to pay them out of pocket at this point too.) she was killed by the rioters. Varian then became much harsher with the rioters and they ended up leaving the city as they knew Varian was going to hold a grudge and later under their former guild leader became bandits who robbed and murdered the common people of Westfall and Elwynn forest while making plans to literally destroy Stormwind city. Just like the nobles Onyxia was influencing them too.
Westfalls problems were all related to The Brotherhood, not nobles of Stormwind. Even in Cata they stole all of the food and other shipments Stormwind sent to help the people there.
We are working for “The peoples militia” made up of former farmers (Stormwind guards did not have the numbers to deal with them.), in Westfall to help get rid of the brotherhood who are ruining everyone’s lives, not Stormwind or some nobles but the common people who live there.
That’s the perspective we are presented with, but Vanessa’s speech at Moonbrook and the amount of people attending her rally presents a completely different picture.
Think about how many people were in Deadmines, how many people were patrolling outside it wearing defias bandanas. The people’s militia was head up by the military outpost of the Alliance, whereas the actual people’s militia was out there in Moonbrook, getting their hands on any food and supplies they could to survive.
We only hear one side of the story, the Alliance military’s side and those sympathetic to the Alliance military.
Uhh no it’s the perspective of the people who have lived there their whole lives. We go around helping the farmers. Read up on the Brotherhood, on top of their normal bandit activities they used their harvesters to steal crops and land from the farmers and even went as far as burning crops and salting the ground so they can’t grow more.
Vanessa had her thugs steal the shipments sent from Stormwind to help the people in Westfall and then claimed they were abandoned. It’s called propaganda. As players we get to look into the lore and find out what really is going on through quests. Plus those are not all people of westfall but Stormwind people who came there.
The people of Westfall have four major problems in cata.
#1 a lack of food, shipments from Stormwind were sent but are intercepted by The Brotherhood. The farmers are also dealing with Harvesters still and have been helping the people of Stormwind who came to Westfall.
#2 elementals and other cata issues, players are sent to help deal with some of that.
#3 Brotherhood thugs stealing land and killing people. Go over to Hogger and pick up the quest item (It’s a deed) next to the dead Brotherhood member and do that quest.
#4 Gnolls & Kobolds who work with the Brotherhood, look into how many groups they worked with. They apparently worked with Gnolls & Kobolds + Naga among other groups.
Plus that’s not a Stormwind garison but the Westfall brigade, formerly know as the peoples militia. They joined the war effort in Wrath to stop the Lich King. It’s literally only made up from the people of Westfall, not Stormwind city.
As you can tell I really like Westfall and the peoples Militia, it’s probably what I know most about with WoW lore but I’m sure I missed plenty of points.
Alexstrasza said it herself, the world will heal itself in time. Darkshore is the best example, there are no more raging tornadoes and the like. The world is stuck in cata, but the reality is most the stuff is likely healed blizzard just won’t spend the time to update it.
There needs to be an wxpansion focused on actually helping the subsections of lore that are unfinished. Gnomes, dwarves, what happens with draenei now? Stuff lie that. Make it liie dragon age origins. More rpg focuse.
I’m in. Heck, let’s not stop with Westall. I’d absolutely love an expansion where we did nothing but go around the world and actually clean up our damn messes.
The last real RP Guild I joined had basically this as a concept. I was pretty involved and had some fun, but it was pretty short-lived. People lost interest, I think.
