Reason to play before patch X.2 any more? A pleeb's opinion on BFA so far

Assuming they keep the same patch naming schemes.

WARNING - Casual perspective incoming in the form of a wall 'o text! There is a question at the end so you can skip to that if you don’t care. But you clicked, so maybe you do. You made it this far right?

I liked Legion (you can stop here if you like too, I won’t judge). So Kil’Jaeden went out like a b**** (better than BC Illidan though) and a handful of characters that were critical to the game’s history but never got much screen time and got cutscene-power-to-the-maxed and locked in a closet. I felt the ride was decent and was subscribed more than I wasn’t.

I was hanging with the conductor on the hype train for BFA and bought 6 months before launch and then let it lapse. But hey I got a boat.

I played both sides (more horde), am an LFR hero, unlocked the trolls and got half way through exalted with the Admiralty. I’ve taken breaks before but always felt like, “I’m good for now, but I’ll be back.” Not this time. I played the free weekend to do all LFR wings of the new raid, looked at the WQs and said “yup, still sucks”.

But now what? The endgame felt so empty. Azerite armor? I’ll skip that dead horse, but I will say overhauling one of your main selling points of an expansion half way through is not a good sign. Islands? Pandaria scenarios but worse rewards on top of being a test bed for their new NPC AI. I did my 5 for the boat NPC on one character and that’s it. Professions are dull, boat NPC gear doesn’t seem worth it, and will be good for mount equipment that most people will probably buy once and forget about.

The shop got more love than the game to this point.

This “war” between the factions just doesn’t feel like one outside of cinematics. It’s skirmishes for airing grievances between a couple main characters. Drip feeding a story that can be completed in 3 days of casual playing over more than a year is just bleh.

Anything that happens that might make Sylvanas’ intentions/motive clear feels like “whatever, can we just kill her please?” at this point.

Genn should have ripped out Anduin’s throat and attacked Sylvi in UC. He’s not a good boy. He could betray Anduin to go fight and I’d be fine with it. Alliance needs more internal strife that will actually have consequences.

Jaina seems like she’s approaching Guardian levels of power without much to back up why, unless there’s something in the books I’m missing. I’ll avoid the obvious jab here.

Malfurion is not intimidating. Stop it.

I expect big things from Tyrande though. She seems like she’s had enough of it all and is one of the only ones really ready to fight.

Nathanos… I can’t even. Can we kill him too?

So now we have 8.2 with the promise of a UGE amount of stuff to do. Great! Finally. I’ll wait for a month after it’s out and maybe come back. Blizz fell victim to the same plague that has been hitting more than a few AAA companies and their major releases in the last year. I feel like I can’t get hyped again when the next expansion comes and should just wait for a discount and/or wait until most of what there is to do is available in an X.2 patch before subbing again next time. Catch up mechanics and LFR carries and good enough for me.

So, if you made it passed or skipped the verbal diarrhea, tell me, what keeps you playing apart from guild/community? Being social is one thing but what do you find enjoyable with the game up to now? Farming old content, playing the AH, transmog hunting, alts (i’ve maxed 4 and have a 111 mag’har)? If you like things that I don’t like islands, what is it about them? I’m looking for things to try that I haven’t thought of and get different perspectives. If you think this is “casual drivel, nothing to see here”, I get it, but if you too are still playing I really want to know what keeps you logging in.

Taking a break until 8.2 theres no motivation or reasons to play right now.

All the good stuff are in the next patch

In a word, fun. I may be in the minority. But I find a lot of the activities at end game and lower to be fun.

I’m still chasing my AotC with my guild. But I also like pugging normal raids and LFR. I like seeing if I can improve my personal performance in each successive run. Plus you never know what kind of drama or excitement you might encounter playing with a bunch of strangers.

I run M+ for both gear and RIO score. I just want to get better at the three main classes I play. Personal improvement and all that.

I also enjoy the legacy content from time to time. I’m in the process of working on my Pandaria archeology while mining to make the JC mount for a guild raffle. I do the occasional transmog or mount run. I run alts to get the vanilla achievements I missed the first time around before there were achievements.

And sometimes I like to just turn on some music, pick a nice scenic spot, and fish for an hour. But I find enough to do each month to justify the sub fee.
