Reason The 2H Rune is DOA

http s://vanilla-wow-archive.fandom.com/wiki/Normalization

Windfury is one of those attacks not affected by normalization. You can take a Heirloom Arcanite Reaper and hit higher WF’s than Furious PVP weapons, go test yourself. This is carried into WOTLK from Vanilla. Once more people try it out they’ll notice that with Flurry active your WF non-crits will be roughly the same as normal white hits. However, WF crits will be heavy.

Let’s use the new Totem Weapon as a base:

Bloodstorm War Totem
116-175 Damage
(146 avg damage)
3.6 speed

Windfury Weapon (rank 2)
222 extra melee attack power after the talent.

Shaman’s strength from base stats + Ap/STR from gear = 150 extra AP to the formula.
150+222=372

damage = base_weapon_damage + (weapon_speed * Attack Power / 14)
damage = 146 + (3.6 * 372 / 14)
damage = 146 + 96
damage = 242

Now do the formula with 60% increased speed from Flurry + the Specialization

damage = base_weapon_damage + (weapon_speed * Attack Power / 14)
damage = 146 + (1.5 x 372 / 14)
damage = 146 + 40
damage = 186

Therefore my true suggestion for a Shaman 2H balanced rune is to simply double all melee damage while wielding a two handed weapon.

I’m confused. If it’s NOT affected by normalization, wouldn’t the damage be unaffected by the attack speed increase?

Doesn’t matter either way. Without a replacement for Lava Lash and fewer Maelstrom Weapon procs, AND no extra rockbiter imbue, 2hand enhance is going to be dead on arrival, regardless of how hard WF hits for.

No because in place of actual weapon speed it would have “3.3” no matter how much haste you added.

"The normalized weapon damage for instant attacks is:

normalized_damage = base_weapon_damage + (X * Attack Power / 14)

where X is:

  • 1.7 for daggers
  • 2.4 for other one-handed weapons
  • 3.3 for two-handed weapons
  • 2.8 for ranged weapons"

Maelstorm is based on PPM in WOTLK you get full (5) stacks per minute with two weapons or one.

Ok MSW being PPM is good news for 2hand, but I’m still confused since in your first post you said WF isn’t normalized but your second post says it is.

Attack speed increases don’t affect weapon damage.

You will be doing slow 2hander damage while swinging it like a dagger

Weapon damage isn’t normalized to speed in classic WoW.

Whole lotta math. Whole lotta wrong.

Lolno.

not how it works. its still base weap speed*dps. you just swing faster

attack power is normalized for instant weapon attacks, not for white damage, and it isn’t evenfor all forms of instant attacks, like windfury.

going to bump this so I can post videos after that patch unlocks.
